Cathy - Devin is in surgical tech school at Portsmouth, VA. He says the biggest difference thus far is that they have more freedom to decide how they use their time outside of the classroom, (no more phases). Oh, and they have TV's in their rooms although usually only on for sporting events as they have tests almost every day so there's lots of studying! That and many of them are more seasoned sailors with more experience. One of my son's best friends is actually 35 yrs old and has been to the sand already. So they share a lot of their experiences. Devin says it kind of reminds him of college but that everyone is better behaved! He also tells me that he can see the bay outside his window and that it makes him feel more at home, growing up on the water has spoiled him! Big Congrats to your son on getting a C-school as well! :0)

So, my son is in C school and doing very well thus far, he's like 2nd or 3rd in his class GPA right now which is pretty awesome if I do say so myself! Anyway, all that mom-bragging aside, I was wondering what the chances would be of him going to FMTB after C school? He says he'd really like to have that training and was somewhat envious of his buddies that went there after A school although he knows how awesome it is that he got a C school. Does anyone know if that would be an option for him after C school or will he be stationed somewhere first and then be able to apply for that? Just wondering. He probably already knows the answer to that but as mom I'm on a need to know basis with these things! LOL

Cathy - Congrats to your son and a job well done and earning a spot in C school! Devin is in C-school in Portsmouth and he said aside from a small handfull of them that came from A school many of them there have been in the Navy for longer and are a bit older. Although he says that's pretty cool because they kind of watch out for you and what not. I wish I had info to share with you on the AVT but I don't but I'm certain someone on this board will know! Find myself wondering if they have a board just for that? Devin is doing surgical tech, pretty self explanatory. Although I think I will look around to see if they have a page! :0)

Mainly I guess I want to hope that when he signs up for classes, that he'll be able to make them. Del Mar College is a really good junior college, pretty much put in place for the USN when it was a big base there. My son has two years of college credits under his belt, plus his AP ones from high school, but all won't transfer to bigger schools. Del Mar's credits all transfer, so I think he's planning to challange some of the courses he's already had to get the credits at Del Mar, and the keep going.

We talk alot about the deployed corpsmen and the ones serving with Marines, can someone tell me about the day to day routine of a corpsman serving on base here in the US? Mine will be in a small base environment ( if he doesn't make me insane by volunteering to be deployed before he gets there in October!) so I'm curious. He plans to take a few college courses, and come home every other weekend or so. So I assume he'll be in the base hospital? or doing day time work? I know back when my mother was alive, even the ER was close to closed in the evening there.

I'm a new Corpsmen Mom thanks for saying female Corpsmen because my daughter is still in bootcamp over in the 200 block at Great Lakes Illinois. She should graduate around July 15 so I am a newbie. Everyone here seems to have alot more experience here and I am VERY grateful and wanted to say hi and thanks for all the info.

Inga - our daughter said that picture is going to be her leverage with him when he gets older! LOL This one is him sitting in Pop-pops motorcycle saddle bag is my absolute favorite though! Frank is feeling the same way about adopting, says you just don't know what you're getting into. For now I shall continue to foster dogs I guess!
