Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Sharon, we knew which plane they were coming in on, but not until the last minute, so Cher had made her plans to be there from day one of the first arrivals. Then she and another Navy mom just made sure there was lots of mom greeting going on even if mom couldn't be there for every single one.
I repeat, when you know your single child is going to be deployed, make sure that child knows to give your email and phone number to the parent coordinator or family readiness connection before he or she leaves the country. That is how you will know when and where they are returning.

OMGoodness, that must have been brutal waiting for that plane! How wonderful that she was there to welcome them home! If/when my son leaves US soil and then heads back, if for some reason I couldn't be there to welcome him home I sure would appreciate that someone was there to! :0)

Cher was there for 3 straight days of greeting the marines and sailors as they came off the buses...her son and my son were on the last plane in together!

I got your desert cammies...on my son as he was greeted by our own cher last November on one of the happiest days of my life, especially when I fired up this computer to find pictures of the homecoming! The shirt cher has on is the one she designed (and sent me one, thanks again!) but it's actually well-lettered, I just did a little smudge on the unit and on my son's last name.
I wish I could have been there and if he leaves the US again, I'm there when he comes home to US soil.

My son was doing his laundry (ironing) yesterday when we talked, he said the new uniforms aren't so bad for ironing. Test #9 is this week, he's starting to think about what path he'd like to follow after A-school, a C school would be great but he's also thinking he'd like to go FMTB (never sure if I get that straight!) At any rate, thus far he's carrying a high GPA so hopefully he'll have a little choice. :0)

Yeah, I try! I think they just grew up too quickly for my liking. :0) When my oldest was a senior in high school I told my husband we needed to have another and he told me I needed to have my head examined, guess he didn't quite find the joy in a busy house as I did! LOL

I miss the noise and the giggling and sitting in a bleacher watching one sport or another! 5 kids grown and left home, 6 dogs in my house now, coincidence? NOT! LOL - I guess at least the dogs are never going to ask for my car keys or move out! :0)

On the uniforms, Devin got his black pants/tan shirt in basic, he wore it when he was home on the day he went to work at the recruiters office, he likes it better than the blues but I just love the traditional blues and whites myself!
Bette - I feel your pain! 40 degrees is reason to stay in the house wrapped in a blankie with a hot toddie around here! We are definately weather wimps! Of course I'm betting we can handle the 90+ degrees in summer better than some :0) This weekend was beautiful here, mid 70s sunny, slight breeze, I worked in the yard all weekend and then felt awful when Dev told me it rained and was basically miserable all weekend in GL!
OK folks, I read 3 days of comments and still no word from Amy? Sure hope all went well for her! Will keep her in my prayers.
