While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hope everyone is safe and warm, seems like the weather has been out of control the past couple of days! My oldest son sent pictures of the snow in Alabama yesterday - needless to say my Dev in GL had to respond that his brother has no clue what a real snow is! LOL

Marines usually deploy for 7 months, at least to Iraq. Extensions are always possible. I don't know what the norm will be for the upcoming Afghanistan deployments. My son's MEU deployment was also for about 7 months.

Taken today by my corpsman, who was so jazzed.! said they couldn't hear the signal to "at ease" so they didn't get to yell and shout the welcome they wanted to... He was so excited!

Speaking as a mom, Missy, put on some snuggy pj's, have a nice cup of sleepytime tea and crawl into bed for a good night's sleep! If you were here I'd send you one of my doxies to snuggle with, they're like furry little hot water bottle that love to snuggle and are guaranteed to make anyone feel better!

LOL - Missy! Are you into ER as well? I'm trying to do something with my hands while sitting on my bottom in front of the TV all night on Thursdays - so I'm trying to teach myself knitting. Let's just say it's not working out too well! I can crochet till the cows come home but knitting takes too much attention. Thinking maybe a treadmill in the TV room might make more sense! :0)

I think my son's unit ( and Cher's son's as well) were there because they just returned from Iraq in November...other units selected are probably on their way to deployment.

Lorelai, my son promised me two years of college before enlisting, and he gave it to me. It's my opinion that going directly from high school to the military is not necessarily good for every young person, I think they need the growth on them, mentally and physically. He worked at a local grocery store during high school and college, and bought his own car. I'm glad to hear he's decided to go back to school, and I'm glad to hear about a potential family!
The dog? he's always insisted that on deployments that sailors and marines might tell their wives, moms and girlfriends that they miss them more, but really, they all miss their dogs the most. Big conversation topic, their pets...dogs in particular. We lost our big guy over a year ago, so I know he's missing him in many ways right now. Our little girl dog is his current canine love, but he misses his dogs in general.
