While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi Rayelene, worry is a natural with us isn't it? please be careful about how much information about units and locations of those units, etc that you share in a public internet forum.
That said...check the web site for you son's unit...when I didn't hear often enough from my son when he was out on MEU, that's what I would do.Often there are daily pictures taken and posted...check both the MEU for a web site and the ships name as well. Sometimes, on a MEU, they go on land for training or exercises or to build schools, whatever...and I wouldn't hear from my son until they were back onboard ship. No new is good news in the military...

I don't know if the "only son" thing is still in effect, seems like that was years ago...my son is an only son with that last name and no one has ever mentioned it...not that he'd take it. Heck, he'd stay in now if his unit was deploying sometime soon. But, thank goodness, they are not...and he's leaving the Navy, he says, in the summer. Life is good.

When Matt was on his leave before his sand deployment, I knew he was a little emotional about it, HE suggested pictures one day! and smiled in everyone! and when Cher met him at Camp Lajuene on the homecoming day, he smiled big and wide for the camera and his mom!

Rita, we couldn't go to Matt's either, but he said as well it was no big deal, but still...and I had no one to take pictures! of that or his promotions either! I think he's had his picture taken so much growing up he just doesn't get it...I need those pictures!
