Thanks Andrea - This past weekend was his first phase 2 liberty and I would bet he wore his civilian clothes and not enough of them! Nothin' in that boy's wardrobe from FL is enough to stave off the cold in IL!

My heart almost stopped in my chest this morning, cell was ringing, looked at it and it was my Sailor. You all know full well that in the middle of the morning on a Thursday our boys are hard at studying in class! Poor kid, he had just gotten back from seeing a doctor, has an upper respiratory infection, said his head hurt so bad last night he couldn't see straight so he went to his Chief and told him something was wrong. This part made me laugh, he said "Mom, he put his hand on my head like you do and told me to see the doctor, I had a fever!" So, they gave him meds and told him to go back to his barracks and sleep today. He'll be back in class tomorrow, he's afraid to get behind!

I was amazed that my son, not known for strong study habits (isn't that a nice way to put it?) in high school or college (unless it was a class he really liked!) did so well in his corpsman trainings. I asked him about it..and he said "MOM! you can't tell some bleeding Marine on the ground 'sorry, buddy, I didn't read that page,' you have to KNOW it."

One of the few letters I got from Basic training ended " I have to go, I have to teach 4 idiots how to iron." He also told me that one time he and another roommate had a problem with another roommate not cleaning..."we had a conversation with him." I never asked what that meant, don't want to know. I do know that leaders will show up, and they are observed by those above them.

From what I read on the site, each class at Lejeune has 100 Corpsman with a maximum of 35 of them women!

Boy I'd be in BIG trouble if my future daughter-in-law saw that, they are getting married on the 8th not the 9th! In my defense I'm just the mom of the groom! LOL

Inga - you are a goddess! I don't know what we'd do without you! If I was reading the schedule correctly, if my son does go to LeJeune FMTB, a class starts there on May 18th, and he must be on base by May 13th which gives me a little shimmer of hope that he may actually be able to make it to his brother's wedding on May 9th! Of course I'm not counting on anything at this point, I know better! :0)

Here's a question for those in the know - If they go with the Marines I realize that they go through boot camp there as well, but is it the bootcamp that all new Marine recruits go through or is a special version for the Corpsmen? Just wondering.

Sue - they must have been on the same mind set - Devin went twice this weekend too! He headed over there on one of the days just to go to the top of the Sears Tower to take some pictures and then got back on the train and went back to base! Silly boy! Oh to be young again!

Did not hear that Inga, thanks for the update. My son told me this past weekend that he is seriously considering putting the Marine training on his wish list for after A-school. I guess they watched a documentary last week that really got him pumped up. I told him whatever path he follows we are behind him, as far as our family is concerned there is no path not worthy and all should be followed with pride! Of course it put a quiver of fear in my heart but heck, I got that when he told me he was making his first day trip into Chicago! (Note to self: gotta let them spead their wings!) :0)

Jackie - my son did a lot of running before he headed to boot camp and some weight training, he said he was really glad he did that because they did run alot! Does his recruiting station have a DEP meeting? Ours had the DEPs meet twice a week for physical training and they were given the opportunity to complete this booklet (sorry I can't remember what they called it) but if you completed everything in the book you had a better chance for advancing from an E-1 to and E-2 a little ahead of the curve. Also, they held a luncheon every couple of months for all of the DEPs and their parents and it was a great opportunity to ask the recruiters and even their Chief questions.
