Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

So, this past weekend was the Gasparilla celebration in Tampa, it begins with Pirates taking over the city (with ships and all) and a huge parade with lots of krewes on floats, bands, etc. I am in the Krewe of Chasco and in the course of the day I ran into 2 young sailors that were there to march with the Navy band at the head of the parade. They were such fine young men, I really enjoyed visiting with them. Anyway, I had a picture taken with them that I'd love to share, my question is can I? Not sure if there are rules against posting pics of sailors that aren't your own child! Anyone know?

Wow Carol, that is sooo cool! Sending up some prayers albeit a little late in the day! I hope you hear from your son soon! I heard from my sailor last night, he got a 93 on test #2! Yay!

The Navy will decide who it needs in what job and when that will change...if that works out to a sailor's advantage, it's by accident. Now that my son has served out most of his enlistment, all types of options are being offered to him to get him to re-enlist. If he was interested in staying in the military past this 4 years, he'd work with a career counselor, and basically both he and the Navy would enter an employment contract with more guarantees...so goes the story anyway. As a Navy brat, growing up in a Navy town, I learned the Navy will do what is best for the Navy. That's just good sense, and why the military exists in the first place, to take care of military business.

Lisa - my son had been calling home every night on his cell phone up until this week, he's so busy studying he's only sent a text to tell me he's studying like mad and will call me after his next test. They have an awful lot to learn in a very short period of time so it's important to study as much as possible.
