While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I brought the boys to Chicago when they were younger, like 10 yrs ago, in the summer time and it was nice, lots of cool things to do the kids to see there, ball games and museums, etc. Will only go back now for graduation and then it's adios Chicago! LOL!

Too bad that new facility didn't open sooner, I know my son would be a lot happier in San Antonio! Oh well, hopefully this is a life experience that he will learn to cherish! :0)

I guess you always want what you don't have! I liked the snow for the very short time I was in GL for PIR but there's no way I could ever live in it! My son was cute, he said "mom, close your eyes when you walk in the snow, doesn't feel like walking in sand?" I laughed and told him I don't think so, I walk in the sand barefooted, not in boots! LOL

I don't know what's wrong with my kids, my older son played football at North Dakota State, now my youngest is in GL, FL boys should know better! LOL! Told my son to study hard and get really good grades and hopefully he'll get to go somewhere sunny and warm! :0)

Well, we live on the water and we're out on the boat all the time, even in the winter when the water is colder the guys go out fishing so I know that's part of his homesickness right now. I think once he gets classed up and has his mind busy he'll be fine, just mindless work like shoveling gets him wondering what the heck was he thinking! I keep telling him to focus forward, keep that goal in mind!

He called me when he went back to his room for his ski mask! Today is his duty day and I guess with all the snow they've gotten recently his whole group is out there shoveling! When he saw snow for the first time he was so excited, betting by the time A-school is over he'll never want to see it again!

Sharon, my son used to ask me why my parents retired to Corpus Christi Texas after my dad left the Navy...after his experience in GL, he says he understands completely. We're from Central Texas, he was really really used to more sunshine and being outdoors more than he could do up there.
Shoveling snow, poor guy...I bet they look to see who isn't from snow country and hand that job off to them.

I heard from my son last night and he's heard they will probably class up this Monday as well! Poor kid is on duty today, out snoveling snow. He's having some ups and downs, seems like when his mind isn't kept busy he gets homesick. I think coming from the south where it's usually warm and sunny and being up there where it gets dark at 4:30 and more often gray than sunny has a big affect on him.

I am remembering my son worrying about uniforms and all of that...and now those uniforms hang in the closet here at home, as a field corpsman he just wears cammies all the time. He did take his dress uniforms back with him just in case, but will probably never wear them again before he leaves the military this summer. There are literally uniforms in that closet that have never ever been worn with his name on each one.
Foxsox.com for socks they can wear with those boots...start stocking them up now, they're expensive, but worth it according to all I hear from about them!

Uli you are a smart mom! My son and I stood in the mens department at Dillards and debated taking apart a pair of suspenders to do the trick but I thought the clips would be too heavy! He did find them on base and bought a couple sets. Not sure if he's using the extra set on his sheets, will have to remember to ask him! LOL
