For those who are new to Corpsman school, I would suggest you listen to the following webcast. It's really informative. It's a conversation with an actual instructor from the school. http://www.corpsman.com/2008/10/attack-of-da-chief-naval-hospital-corps-school-edition-38/

Hello All,
I will no longer be a member of this group as my son has changed career paths! In fact he is home! He flew home last night. He is in the selected reserves and was given the opportunity to voluntarily withdraw from the corpsman program. He is planning on choosing another career path. I am not sure how long he will be home and neither is he. He went to his duty station today and was met by a unhappy E-3!! He will meet with someone with more information as what is next. I have enjoyed the few conversations I have has here and I will continue to pray for all the corpsman sailors and their families. Good luck to all and God Bless each of you.

Bonnie,
My son graduated 8/1 and told me last night that he thought classes were beginning next week. He said they had 62 people ready to start. Now whether or not this is what will happen I am not sure.I am also not sure who told him this either. Hopefully this is what will happen as my son is ready to begin classes.

I'm the one called "Doc"

I shall not walk in your footsteps, but I will walk by your side,

I shall not walk in your image, I've earned my own title of pride.

We've answered the call together, on sea and foreign land,

When the cry for help was given, I've been there right at hand,

Whether I am on the ocean or in the jungle wearing greens,

Giving aid to my fellow man, be it Sailors or Marines.

So, the next time you see a corpsman, and you think of calling him "squid"

Think of the job he's doing as those before him did.

And if you ever have to go out there and your life is on the block,

Look at the one right next to you....

I'm the one called "Doc".

I was digging in an old blog and came upon this:

In my Marines Mom board subscription, I've learned alot about how strongly the Marines who serve with Navy Corpsman feel about their "Docs"...

one mom wrote:

Navy Corpsman are the only ones that all of them truly adore! My son, Jake, is on his 2nd deployment to Iraq. He constantly talks about what their Corpsman does for them! They have nothing but respect for those guys.
I remember when Jake came back from Iraq the first time in Aug 2006. We went to a pool party at a Marine family's home in California. Jake's Navy Corpsman never left the side of the pool, where he watched over the Marines swimming in the pool. I told him to go get something to eat and I would watch the pool. He said "No ma'am...my job is never done with these guys. I will stay here at the pool till the last one gets out" He was just so sincere! WOW! I was just so amazed at his loyalty to his Marines. His mom told me that he never wanted to leave this unit of guys. Jake told me that he was like that the whole time in Iraq. Stay proud of your Corpsman

another, the wife of a Marine sgt had a funny story to share:

What happens there is a few things one of which is
called the NIC (Night Infiltration Course) which I have had the
pleasure of going through because of Janye Wayne Day(where Marines
wives get to wear their husbands uniform with Flack and Kevlar. Well
the NIC is a course that they do in the night anytime of year. In
this course there is constantine wire, tank ditches (that are
covered with ice when its cold that you have to bust through with
your rifle when its cold and go into the water) and various other
obsticals. Well you have to go through this course on your
stomach/back. About 10 to 15 feet into the course they(instructors)
will compromise you. Which means the drill instructor type yelling
begins along with, flares being shot up in the air and when they are
up there lighting up the sky you are not allowed to move, also SIM
rounds are fired, so its basically like a war type situation. Its
pretty stressful. Well now that you know what its like let me
explain what happened. My husbands boss out there at the time was a
really cool guy and I wanted to come watch them do the NIC one night
to see what it is like for real cause I know they had to hold back
on us wives. Well his boss agreed and it was in the fall when I got
to watch. This was in NC so it wasnt very cold yet. Well the people
who were going through the NIC were from the Army and they had 5
Army Medics(equivalent to a Corpsman) there. Well I watched through
the course for a good bit even to the point when I couldnt see them
anymore cause you could still here what was going on. Well my
husband and his co workers really gave them hell that night. Well
when one of the soldiers got hurt in the course he yelled for the
Medic. So the medic went over and I believe another one came along
too. Then they all started yelling for "Our Corpsman". I just
thought it was kinda funny that their were 5 medics there and they
were yelling for one our Corpsman. I was sitting there talking with
the Corpsman til he had to go do his job. He was a really nice young
man. I have met both of the Corpsman that have served with my
husband while he was over there and they are both amazing people. My
husband says if there is one person you really want to make friends
with its the "Doc". They have actually helped my husband on several
occasions. They are treated and trained just like one of the Marines..
