For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Here's a great pro tip from a Sailor to share with your corpsman for use when deployed on a ship: "Use the following, which will allow you to text from your ship's email. It'll save a lot of time when communicating back home if you'd like semi-instantaneous communication."

They will have limited leave at first. They have to earn it. The longer they are there the more time away from base they are allowed to stay. They will be limited as to how far away from base (miles) they can go. When they first get there and are given leave they will have to wear their peanutbutters (uniform). They can not have their car when they first get there but can earn the privilege.
They will have a mini fridge and microwave in their shared area and like others said the wifi is spotty. My son bought a piece of equipment from an upper classman which helped. He also sold it to someone else when he left.

Hi Toni, my daughter is finishing up A school at Ft Sam Houston and she can receive packages but she said to try to send it so the delivery day is not on a weekend b/c the postman just leaves the packages and they can get stolen.
It is more like a dorm room and they will have a roommate. They also can have a computer/phone but the wifi is not that great. My daughter said that they mostly use taxis but also have access to Uber once outside the gate but it is expensive.

A school is much easier than bootcamp. They are allowed a phone and can talk when they havs time. They are allowed to leave and go out. It is kinda like a dorm they have a roommate. For me A school was much easier to deal with i could talk to my son everyday and didnt have that worry of not knowing how he was doing. He enjoyed A school alit made get friends and did really well. Congratulations to your kid!!! I hope all goes well!!

Hi, my sons PIR is 6/2/17. He will go to Sam Houston for A school and C school then North Carolina for infantry. I have some questions like: Ones they are in A school can they receive packages form home? Is it like a dorm at a college? Will they be able to use their phones and computers? My son mention taking his car, I wish he did not, how is the transportation? Thank you for anything you may help me with.

plmont0429 & Tamme - thank you very much! I did go to PIR & it was amazing. Nothing quite like seeing your child go through that ceremony - they will always be your child, but no longer just a "kid".
