OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).  

Specific information on this policy change will be provided in the coming days and weeks.

Breakfast Casserole

1 (32 ounce) bag frozen hash brown potatoes
1 pound bacon diced, cooked and drained, or 1 pound cooked ham, cubed
1 medium diced onion
1 green bell pepper diced
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar or Monterey jack cheese
1 dozen eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper (more or less to taste)

Place a layer of frozen potatoes on the bottom of the crock pot, followed by a layer of bacon then onions, green pepper and cheese. Repeat the layering process two or three more times, ending with a layer of cheese.

Beat the eggs, milk and salt and pepper together. Pour over the Crockpot mixture, cover and turn on LOW. Cook for 10 to 12 hours.

I never had eggs cook in a crock before, it would be interesting to see how it comes out.
Breakfast Potatoes

4 potatoes, sliced
1 onion, sliced fairly thin
4 ounces cheese, grated
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
4 rashers bacon, fried or microwaved, or
bacon bits from a jar (sprinkled on liberally)

Layer in crock pot in this order: Potatoes, butter, onions, bacon; then, cheese. Repeat. Cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours.

Serves 6.
HI Jan, the breakfast potatoes feeds 6 and the breakfast casserole will feed at least eight people.
I will definitely try this. I cook a breakfast casserole in the oven but never thought to try it in a crockpot. My kids will all love this. I usually use sausage links cut up in pieces and turkey bacon,
You may have just saved me. I was trying to figure out how to feed breakfast to two young men who will be staying here for a few days this week. I leave for work at 6:45 am and can't be later this week due to testing. I really wanted them to have a hot breakfast not just cereal and toast. THANK YOU for this...I am so excited to try it.
My sister made this recipe over the holidays and she said it was awesome! Ihaven't tried it yet but may do it for my son's high school graduation in May.
I love this Recipe - only I used some slices of bread on the bottom - used one that has non stick coating on- and temps vary from 1 to 5 - I used low.
What is cool is that I made this in the hotel room, the night before- so we could eat a good breakfast- the morning of my son's BC graduation - in Sept 1997. We had all our kids and my parents with us - us in a mini van - that seated 9 people and folks in their car. When going to Great Lakes - on a really tight budget with 4 kids to see Jon. It was like the Beverly Hillbillies or Ma and Pa Kettle go to Great Lakes.

I use this recipe often for Easter Sunrise Brunch or when we have a house full for graduations and family events - this also works to put in a 9x13 pan and pop in the oven for 30 to 40 min at about 350. Make the night before - and everyone can eat as they get ready.

Slow Cooker Southwestern Breakfast Recipe

What You Need
• 18 eggs
• 1 small can green chiles
• 1 pound breakfast sausage; cooked, crumbled, drained
• 2 1/2 cups grated Monterey jack or pepper jack cheese
• 1 medium onion, diced
• 1 green bell pepper, diced
• 1 teaspoon butter

What To Do
1. Prepare interior of crockpot with non-stick cooking spray.
2. Inside slow coooker,layer sausage, chiles, onion, bell peppers and cheese, repeating layers until ingredients run out, and ending with layer of cheese.
3. Beat eggs, then pour over ingredients in crockpot.
4. Cover; cook on low, 7-8 hours.

Serving suggestion: Serve with tortillas, plus salsa and sour cream.

Maple Sausage and Potatoes Recipe
This Maple Sausage and Potatoes recipe makes 10 servings.

What You Need
• 1 tablespoon butter
• 1 pound sweet Italian sausage links, sliced half-inch thick
• 1 small onion, diced
• 3 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, diced
• 3 tablespoons maple syrup
• Salt and pepper to taste

What To Do
1. Melt butter in a skillet and saute sausage until partially cooked. Drain; add sausage to crockpot.
2. Add onion and potatoes to crockpot and stir.
3. Drizzle maple syrup over ingredients in crockpot.
4. Add salt and pepper.
5. Cover; cook on low 10-12 hours.
Ham and Apple Breakfast Recipe
This Ham and Apple Breakfast recipe makes 12 servings.

What You Need
• 1 4-pound to 5-pound ham
• 5 Granny Smith apples, peeled, sliced
• 4 tablespoons butter, melted
• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• 2 teaspoons dry mustard

What To Do
1. Place ham in center of crockpot.
2. Evenly surround ham with apple slices.
3. In small bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar and mustard. Mix, the drizzle over ham and apples.
4. Cover; cook 10-12 hours on low heat.
Serving suggestion: Remove ham to serving platter and arrange apples around ham on platter. Slice and serve.

Alton's Overnight Oatmeal

1 cup steel cut oats
1 cup dried cranberries
1 cup dried figs
4 cups water
1/2 cup half-and-half

In a slow cooker, combine all ingredients and set to low heat. Cover and let cook for 8 to 9 hours.

Stir and remove to serving bowls. This method works best if started before you go to bed. This way your oatmeal will be finished by morning.
