slapout52 - 90 days of kitchen duty or office laundry.....laundry is what Katie did on the Essex.

@ slapout52 - Yes, they all get to do "cranking" as part of their first deployment.  It depends on the necessity of their job while underway, as to when they will do it.  My son is finishing up his cranking during the Tiger Cruise.  I'm sure he's exhausted and wishing he could be doing just his DC duties.  lol

And another thing!  My Sailor is underway & he says he's crankin.  He isn't happy about it.  Does everyone do this, regardless of rating?

One Sailor on a short run this week--It's his first time out--& got another one sitting in a hotel room on the other side of the world, waiting to be flown to her ship.

I have an "adopted" Sailor in addition to my son.  She is another DC just out of A school.  She was supposed to go to Norfolk & from there to join a ship already underway.  I'm thinking it would make a lot of sense if the Navy did not make any new Sailors report to Norfolk this week!  Lori tell your son hurricanes are tons of fun until the power has been out for 3 days & the fridge is empty! LOL  We went through Hurricane Ivan where we live.  Only good thing was the days off from school.

hi slapout..my son's ship is in dry dock. He got an apartment but doesnt move in till the 7th. he has a shipmate that is letting him stay with him this weekend otherwise he would have had to stay with the ship through this storm.  They have been told to go home after work today and stay there. This will be his first hurricane.  Needless to say I am a bit nervous unlike him.  He said he is kinda excited about expieriencing it.  I told him he was nuts!!

Lori--He reported to Mayport.  His ship is IN at the moment.  Mayport doesn't seem to be in Irene's way--at least not like Norfolk is.
