Navymom4e...you said that when your son first called you about going to Japan, he said he had just thrown up.  Was that from the nerves about going to Japan? Also, where do you live?  We are about and hour and 45 minutes or so from San Diego in Mira Loma.  I am hoping for the best as Jase also requested San Diego but my gut just feels he will be going to Japan also.  He wants to get married before he goes to where ever and it is interesting watching his poor fiance try to plan things with no for sure date!!

nicksmum - when Katie arrived in Sasebo the Essex was in the Phillippines, so she was flown there after just a few days to meet the ship in port.

We leave near Detroit, so the Navy sent her to Detroit.  When she left for Japan her flight was scheduled from Detroit to Chicago and then overseas. Get a gate pass - it's easy!

nicksmum....my son has been in Japan for 3 weeks now and when he first found out and called me he said he had just thrown up!!  We are 1 1/2 hrs from San Diego and my dad is about the same from Norfolk VA so we were hoping for either!!!!  I have been a wreck but now that he is there I am much better!!  He has already been out to sea and had to go out again for the typhoon.  I am sad but I know that he is on an adventure of a lifetime and gets to see the world!!!  And I am saving my money for a trip to Japan :)

nicksmum - my daughter is a DC on the Essex out of Sasebo.  Katie left April 2009.  She has been home twice and will probably be home again the end of the year for a visit.  Hopefully you soon will be excited for him too.

nick called an hour ago to let us know he will be heading to sasebo japan on the uss germantown for 4 years. I am still in shock as he asked for san diego, I told him he will have a great time and that we are all so excited for him, but I am not really feeling that way.

LucyG...Prepare for the worst and hope for the best is one of my favorite sayings.  Thank you for reminding me of it.  Nicksmum,  Jason's PIR was the 13th.  Missed you by a week!  Will you guys cancel your trip?   The only way I can still go on mine is if Jase were to get stationed in San Diego.  But I truly feel in my heart he will wind up in Japan.  Don't know why, Just do.  Keep me posted on where your son winds up ok.

lori, my son's PIR was on may 6th, he told me he had a graduation date for the end of june, I was thinking more the middle of july. We have a family trip planned for the fourth of july week and now I am thinking no one will be home if my son gets back the last week of june. He said that it doesn't matter what preference he puts down they will send him where they need him. we live about 45 min. from san diego so u can guess where I want him.

Lori - To change your profile pic, just place your mouse over your profile picture and 'change picture' should popup.  Click on it and it will take you to the page to change it up.

Haven't had to deal with a wedding, but I have read about things changing.  Nothing is set-in-stone with A school, so it is hard to plan around it.  Sorry that this is happening, but he won't know if he will even get one of the places he has chosen, then it will depend on whether his new wife can be with him.
