Good morning ladies.  So I talked with my son yesterday.  Right now he is being told he will graduate from A school on July 17th. He said he was asked to pick 4 preferences. Two stateside and two out of the country.  The out of country choices were two stations in Japan, one in Guam and one on some tiny island he couldn't pronounce.  The two stateside are San Diego or Bermerton.  We were initially expecting he would be done with A school in August.  Foolishly, his wedding and my summer trip to Washington have been planned around him being home in August.  Now I have non-refundable tickets to Wash. leaving 7-13 and coming home August 3 and his fiance's dress won't be in till the end of July.  Welcome to Navy time right.  Jason said the date isn't set in stone.  Anyone else have this type of experience?  Also, how the heck do I find my profile so I can change my picture??

Lori - Katie's ship, and others, do maneuvers with other countries.  They were in Cairns Australia back in 2009 and will be underway to Australia later this year - different port though.

I would be so estatic if Jason wound up in San Diego for a bit before he heads out to sea.  That is less than 2 hours from us!   Australia???  Someone tell me about Australia!!

It didn't take 3 months for Katie either, just can't remember when in January she started.

My son just finished A School(he started in the middle of March, so it went faster than I expected) and he got his orders for the Preble, based in San Diego. I'm really happy for him, and of course excited to see him for a 2 week leave at home before he leaves. I have a zillion questions for him but will try to give him a little time to decompress before I bombard him with them!

MarianneKT's Mom-thanks for the info. Australia should be wonderful! I don't know anything about where my son will be going, but his ship goes all over the Pacific, and went to help with relief efforts in Japan, too.

Hi Terry B and Marianne...Thank you for the info from both.   Marianne, I have to say I hope Jason doesn't wind up far, far away right away.  But if he does, thank goodness for Skype!!  And Terry, Jase would love the sking the Andes only he would be on a snowboard!!  Boy would that make him estatic!!  Just hoping he does get a few weeks at home after "A" school.  The wedding they have been planning is a backyard wedding so it can be put together pretty quickly.  His finace is still hoping for August.  I just hope it doesn't get delayed into the winter!  What ever will be will be!  It sure helps to hear from different DC moms!!!  thank you thank you

Lori - You certainly had a wonderful experience at PIR!  Katie was home for 2 weeks after A school before leaving for Sasebo.  DC training isn't an exact amount of weeks.  Some sailors don't pass a section and have to retake it.

Look under the Discussion Forum above at DC A-School after 1-14-11 PIR It has some info about the DC training 'schedule'  When my daughter was in A school for DC she started in January '09 and completed it by the end of March '09.  By April 25th she was in Japan and will be for 3 years.  Hard to believe she has already been on the USS Essex for over 2 years.

Had a great time in Great Lakes this past weekend.  PIR was amazing.  My son was RPOC for his divison.  Getting to see him lead his division in was just incredible.  He looked so amazing.  We never left town.  All he wanted to do was hang out with his fiance, his dad and me.  Can't get over how fast boot camp flew by and he agreed.  He thought he would be staying in Great Lakes till August but rumor mill says different now.  He was planning on getting married in August now we're not so sure!!   Any other moms have stories to share on how long your sailor was in Great Lakes for A school?

thanks maggs, that's a great way to look at it and an easy way for me to explain it to my son. I noticed today I spelled new (knew) haha, I guess I got excited. angela

Nick knows that he will have a wish list, I have also explained to him he will be sent where he is needed, I am sure he is just nervous and everything is knew. I think he starts his actual classes tomorrow, as last week was all indoc classes, so hopefully the more he learns the more comfortable he will be. thanks all for replying to my post. angela
