Good morning ladies. So I talked with my son yesterday. Right now he is being told he will graduate from A school on July 17th. He said he was asked to pick 4 preferences. Two stateside and two out of the country. The out of country choices were two stations in Japan, one in Guam and one on some tiny island he couldn't pronounce. The two stateside are San Diego or Bermerton. We were initially expecting he would be done with A school in August. Foolishly, his wedding and my summer trip to Washington have been planned around him being home in August. Now I have non-refundable tickets to Wash. leaving 7-13 and coming home August 3 and his fiance's dress won't be in till the end of July. Welcome to Navy time right. Jason said the date isn't set in stone. Anyone else have this type of experience? Also, how the heck do I find my profile so I can change my picture??
My son just finished A School(he started in the middle of March, so it went faster than I expected) and he got his orders for the Preble, based in San Diego. I'm really happy for him, and of course excited to see him for a 2 week leave at home before he leaves. I have a zillion questions for him but will try to give him a little time to decompress before I bombard him with them!
MarianneKT's Mom-thanks for the info. Australia should be wonderful! I don't know anything about where my son will be going, but his ship goes all over the Pacific, and went to help with relief efforts in Japan, too.
Lori - You certainly had a wonderful experience at PIR! Katie was home for 2 weeks after A school before leaving for Sasebo. DC training isn't an exact amount of weeks. Some sailors don't pass a section and have to retake it.
Look under the Discussion Forum above at DC A-School after 1-14-11 PIR It has some info about the DC training 'schedule' When my daughter was in A school for DC she started in January '09 and completed it by the end of March '09. By April 25th she was in Japan and will be for 3 years. Hard to believe she has already been on the USS Essex for over 2 years.
