So excited that you are getting phone calls from your sailors!!! Hoping to hear from our son this weekend, with the six hour time difference it is a little harder to make calls.

Hi All, I had my first call from my deployed sailor!!! I didn't realize how much I missed him until I heard his voice!!

I think jelly fish are dangerous animals!!!.......Everytime we go to Hilton Head both of our kids get stung by them - I stick to the pools!

Donna ---- anxious to hear what kind of work they will let Matt do at this stage - will it be in his division, will it be cranking, will it be? I'm excited, Nick will be try out his sealegs :-)

They had their first swim call, he said it was fun and there were some jelly fish but no dangerous animals in the area...because of course I told him to be careful of sharks!!! LOL

Dawn, that is cool. PCU is precommission unit and if he is going to Mississippi and riding over to SD he will be part of the original crew - thus making him a plankowner on the ship. It's a big deal and he will receive a very special certificate and have bragging rights for life! It's a great experience for him. Yes, storekeeper would be his rate - also known as SK or everyone's best friend when they are deployed!!!

Hi ladies -
Dawn, when will your son be heading to the Lawrence? Will he be part of the PCU (precommission unit)? He's had a fast six months if he just went to BC in April! What job rate is he in?

We did hear from our son last night, their ship recently returned from a long deployment and he joined after that so we thought he'd be sitting at the pier for a while but it sounds like they are gonna go out --- for just a couple of days which I think he is excited about.

Dawn - so nice to meet you, yes he is on the Benfold. I know of just one other mom who's son is on the Benfold. Have you heard from your son? How is he doing? And how are you doing?

Hi all, So my sailor has been deployed for one week. He is sending short emails almost daily so that makes it nice. He told me that he saw the most beautiful sunset ever and the stars at night are incredible. One week down LOL

Oh great Gaylebeth!!! Tease us...

Got a fabulous letter from the CO of our son's ship! He is so family oriented, I really appreciated it. He talked about the Arleigh Burke Destroyers and their purpose, shared his background, talked about how valuable our son's job is to the ship and most importantly ...how impressed he was with our son. Really nice to get a letter like this from the CO.
