Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Deployment was much easier than boot camp. Don't ask me why, I just felt better knowing he was on a big ship and was safe and could take care of himself.

The Benfold will be going out soon, so they were up in Seal Beach (Calif) and they opened the ship up for tours. They had 11,000 people tour the ship in 2 days!! My son had lots of family show up, including his 90 & 86 year old grandparents. My father served on the USS Gilispie (Destroyer) in WWII. He was thrilled to see the ship. Anyway my son had a great weekend showing family members his ship then hanging out afterwards!!
There is a slide show of pictures from the weekend. It's amazing to see all the people that wanted a tour.

I would say a real sailor would be bored silly if all they had was shore duty but I'm sure a few would be more than happy to be near their families and not out to sea.
We have met so many great families since the site started 1.5 years ago and most of those sailors have been able to deploy and the feedback that we hear from them is very positive. Now do I wish I could sign up......ahhh nah a little bit more PT than I'm used to!!! LOL

Very neat. I was hoping that our son would be a plank owner as well but his ship is a few years. He'll be heading to his first ship next month...wish I could say I was excited about that!

mbnavymom - I bet we will be seeing lots of great photos of the Samson soon. Is this your son's first ship? Please keep us posted on how he does with the deployment.
Seabee Dtr...no graduation photos but I do have the class photo and his certificate. He definitely was happy to say goodbye to C school. He has been smiling ever since that plane landed...oh wait...there is a girlfriend in the picture - she MIGHT have something to do with that smile!! LOL

Seabee Dtr.......wished I would have planned on attending his graduation but since he is coming home the same day and you know how these sailors like to down play everything...ohhh it's no big deal, blah, blah. Oh well. He should be on his way to the airport soooooooooon!!!
