Good morning ladies, I will tell you there is a wealth of knowledge in those Hawaii groups, I've learned alot in a short amount of time. Very helpful mommas in both rooms. I just checked the site and there is not a group for the O'Kane as of yet so one of you should start one and then you will find other families as well. If you need any help setting it up, let us know.

Jealous Gaylebeth! A trip to Hawaii - how sweeet is that?! Oh and you get to see your sailor...even better!!! I love that ex Navy grandpa is going to be part of the trip - it will be even more special for all of you.

NavyMomxxxY - that certainly is a fear of mine, making the trip there only to find out the ship has been delayed. At least you had a beautiful scenic place to pout in!

KatK - wishing you a fabulous trip! It's gonna be a long day for you. We lived in Yokosuka for five years while my hubby was sailor. Fabulous, fun place to experience. Our sailor son was actually born there.

Okay ladies,,,have I bragged to you yet? Our son is graduating on Friday from C school and he is the Honor Grad! He will be starting his leave that day as well so Friday - we get to see our son!

KatK, that is very cool! Have a wonderful time!!

Heading to Japan tomorrow and will get to see my son!! I'm so excited and can't wait to see everything.

NavyMomXXXY, I didn't realize it was in Pearl Harbor as well - they might be neighbors!! LOL Our son has not made it to Hawaii yet. He graduates from C school on Friday and then will be coming home for leave before reporting. I have joined the two Hawaii groups here but have only found one other family so far attached to his ship.

gaylebeth - in a group set up like this, a member has a choice of posting a mesage on the board here for all to see including non members of the group OR they can send a message to the group and that goes into your emails. Look above the member pictures when it says...send message to group.

All these O'Kane families!!! How nice that you can connect here...where is the O'Kane homeported at?

I'd love to find a bunch of families from my son's soon to be ship. So far I have only ran into one other mom and she is wonderful so I guess I will do a new shout out and see are there any other...USS Chung Hoon families - homeport Hawaii! NavyMom XXXY - what ship was your daughter on in Hawaii?

Hi NavyMomXXXY, my son is also on the O'kane and runs the store. Hope to hear from you again.

Hi Ladies, don't know if anyone in the group has a sailor on the USS Dunham DDG 109 but I put a story about the christening in the threads above. Perhaps someone will have photos to add :-)

My son's ship (Benfold) will be in Seal Beach this week and they are doing tours over the weekend. I'm hoping some of my family can go and see his ship!!

Susan, my son was very homesick when he first arrived at his ship. Once he met people and made some friends he was better. BUT everytime he comes home or we go out and see him he is homesick all over again. I think it takes a while. My son is only coming up on his one year anniversary from when he went to boot camp, maybe as time goes on and they make more friends it will get easier. Only time will tell.

Is your Sailor on the USS Bainbridge?? Here's a story the Navy released today:

I agree completely with Melinda. Once they are trained and can actually do their jobs - most sailors really enjoy it. They also enjoy being out to sea vs in port. In port is often just maintenance, cleaning, etc. but being at sea.........well that's a completely different life. Will he get a chance to deploy soon?
