NORFOLK, Va. - Six thousand sailors are heading back to Hampton Roads this weekend after a seven-month deployment.

The Navy said Tuesday the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group is returning to Norfolk after supporting maritime security in the Navy’s 5th, 6th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.

Due to arrive Friday are the guided missile cruiser USS Monterey (CG 61) and the guided missile destroyers USS Mason (DDG 87) and USS Nitze (DDG 94).

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) is scheduled to arrive on Saturday.

Welcom Karyn! Congrats on your FC and his wonderful orders. Wow, how exciting to be a plankowner. I'm sure we have another USS Jason Dunham mom on here. If you go back and read the comments, you should find her. If not, just give me a holler.

Yep Melissa, We had a great time. It's just so comforting knowing where he is when he is sleeping and eating. I don't know why, but it just is. We saw lots on board his ship but that meant the most to me. He is so happy to have his car!

That is nice Melinda, so glad they are able to get together...on the same side of the world. The apprehension of waiting for orders - what side of the world, what ship, what, what, what!!! It may still be a couple of months before we get orders but they are at least starting to talk.

Thanks Melinda, isn't the Momsen one of the newer ships? I've been studying hull # s this week...I have NO life!!! Nick's time in C school is winding down, we expect he will be on ship in August. He had mentioned one of those ships could be out of Everett...it could be the Momsen. He is definitely doing a DDG.
My only concern is Everett is SO far away from us, a full day just for travel but ...what mom wants and what the Navy needs are two very different things!!!
