For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I did just about the same thing you did, drove the car across the country, spent about a week in Norfolk, attending Matt's first homecoming and Aunt Mary flew in for the special occassion; toured the USS Truman and Matt's ship and meet the CO.
Matt's trying to get back to Norfolk as I write this. Nasty weather in Atlanta delayed his flight. He may not make it back to the ship until tomorrow. opps

Comment by Dianne on April 13, 2009 at 2:47pm: Wow, when you are gone for a week with no internet there is a LOT of catching up to do. Congrats to the Navy Seals and the Bainbridge for a job well done. We just got back home from driving our sailors car out to him. We got to spend almost a week together, it was great. We had a wonderful tour of his ship, met the CO and XO. I loved seeing where he sleeps and eats. It was the best trip ever. I will post some pics when I can. Melissa, glad you made it back safe and sound!

Nick is an FC, (fire control) he will be working with the Aegis Spy Radar system, he is in school in Dahlgren. His dad was an FC for alot of years...long time ago!

Thought I could learn from all of you in the meantime.

He had been held for five days in a lifeboat in waters off the Horn of Africa after pirates raided his aid ship, the Maersk Alabama.

The official said three of the pirates holding him were killed in the operation.

The fourth is now in US custody.

Mr Phillips is uninjured and is now on a US Navy ship.

Comment by Melissa (Tucson) on April 10, 2009 at 4:24pm: Lucie got an email yesterday from her son who's on the Bainbridge. He said everything was okay. I just got a tour of my son's destroyer and compared to the little 24 foot boat the pirates and hostage are in, I don't think those Sailors on the Bainbridge have anything to worry about. That destroyer has so many advanced weapons and now the Navy is sending another ship out there that's loaded with Marines. God Bless all of them!
