So glad that you had lunch with BOTH of your Sailors!  I can't wait till I can hug, kiss and look into the eyes of my Sailor.  My eyes are starting to leak just thinking about that day.  And thank you for your Sailors.  God Bless everyone of our Sailors.  You have a great weekend yourself, I'll be shoveling.  MI is getting snow -  again.

Karla, is your Sailor on the Stockdale?  Mine is.  Stacie, get on the Moms group for your son's ship and for your state.  It's fun to be part of a couple of groups.

A Sailor's Mom - that was just beautiful.  I'm all misty now.  Stacie, she's absolutely dead on.  I cry everytime he calls.  I go into his room, open the closet & smell his clothes.  I have every letter he has written me.  Last year when we dropped him off at the train station to go back to GL, before being stationed in Calif., I was inconsolable.  When the train started off, I ran next to the train.  It felt like my heart was being ripped out.  We haven't seen him since 1-3-10.  But knowing that we gave him the freedom to do what he chose to do and that he truly loves defending this great nation of ours, makes me the proudest parent - at least in my part of West MI.  If you have to cry - cry.  Try writing a journal, maybe to him.  One day you can give it to him. Maybe the day his son enlists.  You will always be a Mom and will never stop worrying about your kids.  But we don't get manual handed to us when that first one comes home from the hospital or when they leave.  Especially when in the military, they are here one day and gone for a long time the next day and you don't know when you will see them again.  Keep checking in.  We'll help you. What state are you in?  What ship is he on?

When my son was deployed, he got all packages but the last one I sent to him.  The reason for that was because they had already left their last port before coming home.  He did, however, finally get that package, maybe a couple of months after his ship returned to Pearl.  So it eventually gets to them.  The ship usually gets mail when in port and also sometimes, it sounded like, when they are refueling at sea???

Hi

Need advice. When you send a package to you sailor's FPO address and the ship is underway are they pretty good with getting packages to them? I know I hear allot about sending care packeges when they are on deplyment and have not heard much negative. I need to send my son a new DVD player and some other things. I wanted him to get a PO Box but I don't think he wants to do that in case it does not get there before he leaves.

 

What should I do?

I know when my son's ship was deployed any little mention of his ship or a photo just made my day so much brighter.

My son's ship has a FB page also and I'm guessing the public affairs officer probably updated it the most  on deployment???   Sometimes the Captain wrote on it as well which was very nice.  They would also post pictures.  They were really good about keeping it going.  On the navy.mil site you can sign up for them to send you "news" and photos of the day.
