JR...you're in the Navy now....it's a big hurry up and wait and wait and wait now. The Navy has been doing this for a very long time and we're the finest Navy on God's green earth. When Christian was waiting to class up he waited almost 7 weeks so just enjoy the phone calls and the emails all the time now. He'll get busy soon enough once he classes up but will still have time to call :-)
A school is SO much better then boot...LOL

Hi everyone! Had a great time at PIR!!! Loved the time with our sailor, until it was time for good bye!!! :( That was THE WORST!!!! Still trying to move on. Not Easy!! He is on his way to Pcola as we speak. Hoping & praying that he will be able to class up soon, sounds like that is a HUGE problem there!!

Hey Moms....sorry I've been so late getting back with you. PIR was amazing. Everything went very well and no hiccups thank goodness :-) What a show the Navy puts on...well worth the trip!!! Went back to hotel, he called his friends & family and was on facebook alot and ate a ton of junk food. I was happy just sitting there looking at him. Gerry flew down to Pensacola on Wednesday. Doing In-Doc right now until class is filled....the "hurry up & wait" thing. So he's been cleaning and getting his room all tidy, bowling, playing games, and on the computer. Ahhh, the life of a sailor.
Hope ya'll have a great week!!!!

Hollender, yes it's a very big learning experience for us parents too, to let our sons do things on their own and either fail or succeed, and thank goodness with Scouts being a "boy led" organization, there hasn't been too many failures, or at least not too many that can be recalled on a regular basis.

Liz, yes, those who don't understand haven't experienced scouting. Of course, it's what the boys make of it, and it's up to the boys to let the adult leaders know what they want to do as far as outings, etc. The adult leaders just need to sit back and let the older boys SPL, ASL, PL, and APL's do the work, it's leadership training and if problems arise, the adults come in and assist to resolve the issue. I know that if Christian had the chance now he'd be an assistant scout master, but with his schedule right now, it's not possible, perhaps later on, but I do see Christian going into a troop as an ASM or even SM. Same with Jordan, they love the backpacking, camping, and teaching the younger ones because we've been in great troops where the boys are the true leaders of the troop.

Hope everyone has a great week and your sailor is doing well. Blessings to all!

Hello fellow Eagle Moms
I remember being where you all are. One important thing I learned is that my sons surprised me. If they really want to be an Eagle the will acheive it with or with us nagging them. My younger son had is whole project changed in September, he birthday is Novembr 22. I went away in October to visit my older son at college and during this time he had to face the Committee and all the politics alone. This was very difficult for me since I was on the Troop Committee and very involved with the boys. I learned to step back and make my son accountable for himself. Very difficult lesson for me. Anyway, the moral of the story is that he pulled it off in about 6 weeks because he really wanted it. I mean 6 weeks from start to finish. Doing over the workbook, project plans, approvals, signatures, EVERYTHING. He was't going to let his older brother be the only Eagle in the family. Be assured they can accomplish what they set out to achieve, if they really want it. They have to WANT it! Good Luck all.

MichDang- I so can relate to the up coming birthday and the Great it done! part. I just wonder doesn't the pastor have to sign off if the work he agreed to let be the project is done?? I'm sorry I would have a real hard time going to a mass and listening to him if this project fails because he changed his mind.
My middle son is currently attempting to get his Eagle. Project done, merit badges done paperwork UGH! is the snag. See he's busy with football and he presented his paperwork once to the scout master and he said tweak this tweak that.last week. Ben has to tweak it. I came into the computer room this am to see that my Hubby has posted on the dry erase board "BEN CLOCK IS TICKING: DAYS TILL BEN CANNOT BE AN EAGLE 55. Hum think it's a hint to get it done. He is a bit luckier then your son since he turns 18 on Nov 20th.

As for the comment "Oh, it's no big deal" one must accept that, that family never experienced scouting to the full potential. I hear lots of folks say "Your boys still do scouts? WHY?? My boys out grew that long ago. They found it boring and were to busy to do it." Makes me wonder and list the stuff my kids are doing. I have learned to smile and wave smile and wave.at folks like that.

Here's to all the boys of fall/ winter born 1992 and trying to get the rank of Eagle.

JR- How was PIR???? Congrats to your US Sailor!

Michdang, WELCOME to the group!!!! Glad to have you with us. My goodness, you are probably ready to pull your hair out and I would totally understand! And for the comment "it's only scouting" has to come from someone who has never experienced scouting the way we have! I just updated my youth protection training tonight online, I originally took it in 1999/2000, then updated it last year, but my troop didn't have record of my completing the YPT so I just went online and did it for the third time in 10 years. LOL Well now I printed out my certificate and added it to my little white scouting binder so I have proof now!

JR...so exciting for your sailor! We want updates when you get the phone call, and when you do be sure to tell him all us Eagle Scout N4M are really proud of him too! Safe travels to GL, have a wonderful weekend, and give a little shout out for Div 945, that was Christian's division...only a year ago I was in your shoes, very exciting times! May the great scoutmaster keep your path clear and your family soar like Eagles next weekend!

I understand where you are coming from. We have a friend whose son has gone thru hoops only to have to walk away from it, because the committee he was working with, couldn't come to a decision! It was very hard on him. The bonus for him is he has a year or so to go, so he has room. Best of luck & welcome! :)

Tonight my SRs div & 3 others go thru BS21!! Friday is PIR!!!!! SO EXCITED!!!!!!
