Well, here he is...my son the Navy Sailor!!! Had a great day. PIR was excellent. Can't wait to see him tomorrow. Shopping at the NEX and then he wants to go to the mall. I just realized how exhausted I am. This has been one heck of ride but totally worth it. I'll chat later, my pillow is calling me.

I'm sorry I opened a can of worms, but I think we're all moms on the same page. We did our roles when our boys were in Cub scouts and needed us to guide them through their journey towards BSA. Once they got to Boy Scouts, it's very fitting that the men take over and make men out of boys. It broke my heart to read about the gentleman who put 50 years into the troop be told he was "inappropiate" I always say don't try to re invent the wheel. The "helecopter moms" drive me crazy, I just want to rush up to them and yank them away from their boy and say "let them learn something on their own." I have over 10 years in scouting and we've been through 3 troops now, our first troop faded away because our scoutmaster developed serious heart health issues and nobody wanted to step up to help my husband. The second troop had an assistiant scoutmaster that called my son a liar on three different occasions only to be proven that my son wasn't lying about anything, he was just too lazy or politically correct to see what was really going on. Now troop 3 doesn't camp like the former troop so my son and husband don't go with the troop. When this is all done, I hate to say it, but we'll ride off into the sunset knowing that we did the best we could to help our boys achieve what most scouts don't and we also helped a lot of other boys experience scouting in a positive way. We need to always keep that in mind, we did what we did for our boys and what was right by us and right by God.

Sandy.....Thinking of Gerry & all of you traveling! Love the Great Scoutmaster thing.....That is Awesome....may have to sent that to my son! My comment on the politics thing is this......Our troop seems to be falling apart. The last 2 years of scouts that have moved up just don't have it!!! They don't have ANY responsibility,no respect, & they do not want to do ANYTHING (camping or service projects)!!!! We had a scout that had camped in a tent the first time (first time the tent was ever used!!!), because they had rain he had to take it home to dry out. He drug it across the parking lot!!! THE FIRST USE!!!!! Grrrrrrrrr!!!! Need I say anymore. Glad my son is done!!!

Thanks for the support and prayers!! I'll be up tonight. Too excited to sleep. I know he will do great. Not worried because he's prepared for this. Just want that phone call!!!
I've got to chime on the troop politics stuff - I'm a committee member and very involved as well as many other moms. But we let the dads teach our boys. We have several that are Eagle scouts and some that love it so much, even though their kids are adults now, are still with us. They are a wealth of information and not using this info is such a disservice to any scout. I'm very lucky to be in such a great troop. They go camping once a month, none of this car camping stuff. DEE - I hope this "old scout" stood his ground and is still active with your troop. Those women need, as our scoutmaster would say "A come to Jesus meeting". Troops need to be lead by the scouts & leaders, not by the moms.
Okay I'm off my soap box now. I'll be in touch as soon I hear from Gerry. Will be leaving for Great lakes tomorrow AM.
"May the great Scoutmaster of all Scouts be with you until we meet again."

Sandy, we'll keep Gerry and his division in prayer. They will be fine, you may not get much sleep, but they are ready for what lies ahead for them. Let us know when you get that wonderful phone call, and tell him that all us Eagle Moms are very proud of him and all divisions that will be graduating!

JR...you're next in line it looks :-) same as above! My heart is just bursting with pride for our sons because to serve just isn't a job for them, I truly believe that to serve is a calling in one's life. God will keep and bless our sons!

Dee...I loved cubbies! But when they get older, they need to bond with the other boys and adult men, it's a major part of their growing up. Our troops scoutmaster whom just left because district level position required more time was female and while she ran a tight ship, this troop doesn't go on serious outings, no back packing in 10 miles and back out. No week long hikes, her idea of camping is car camping, and that's o.k. but it doesn't give the guys time to bond when "momma" is hovering around the camp. Boys need to pull pratical jokes on each other (zip ties come to mind when I think of my boys) They need time with adult men so if they have questions of life the men can explain things to them without feeling stupid. Once cub scouts move into boy scouts, mom needs to start letting go of the apron strings. JMPO, I'm old school I know, but it's BOY Scouts of America...not Boy and mommy scouts of america. O.k. enough whinning! Good luck to recruits. I want to hear about the best phone calls that lie ahead! And of course you WILL post picture of you and your sailor from PIR! Blessings to all!
