A mom just posted a generic letter on Deps leaving in Aug. (my son would start reading that & roll his eyes) but I could send it to him to pass to another who is not receiving mail. Great idea!!

Christian's PIR date was 9/25/09. It will be here before you know it and you'll have a WONDERFUL weekend with your sailor! Keep your letters positive and encouraging! They need it, and really appreciate it. It's such a HUGE change from hangin at home to having someone in your face all the time barking orders. Keep the praise level high, you are proud of him, let him know! They live off it...and maybe send an extra letter to have your son give to someone who may not get mail from home, I did that 3 times and met the young man at PIR, he was very grateful. Some of these kids don't have good home support but we as mom's have to let them know that they aren't wasting away and that there are those who do appreciate what they are doing. God bless you and your family! Keep me posted!

Well, we've got the PIR date! It is 9-24, a week to 2 weeks sooner than what we were expecting.

Thanks. We got that text at about 2. We have had nothing since. I told him he needed to sleep on the way; I'm hoping he did. Because my husband said the same thing it would be about 3 days before he got to go to bed. It is nice to know that everyone here has been there before & is in the same place I am. I'm not alone. :)

JR...now his adventure begins. You may get the phone call that he got to GL o.k. it's a short 30 second or less and you will hear yelling in the background. He'll go next 3 days without sleep, but all recruits do that. He'll be fine. Start writting letters now, you can get his address from his recruiter, and when you get the official address "form letter" from Navy with PIR date info etc, the address maybe different, don't worry, his mail will get forwarded to him. Keep faith, know that we're here for you. In a few short weeks you'll see him again and be proud of what's he has become...a fine young man and a US Navy Sailor! Thinking of you, just a click of a mouse away for you :-)

Watched my son be sworn into active duty this morning. Stayed at MEPS, until it was time to get on the bus. He & one other sailor got on headed for GL, that was about 12:30, got a text at about 2 they were sitting at a gas station outside gate of the base. Now I'm trying to get myself together & can't seem to stop the tears. Thankfully my sister has invited us to cook, cause I don't feel like doing anything! :(

Chrstine, Thanks. I know a couple Gold Medal Girl Scouts, Congrats. Scouting is GREAT!!! You're right the military is a great extension for the scouts.

JR....all us mom's in here know what it takes for our sons to get their Eagle, I thought it'd be a fun thing to have since my son said that a few other guys he met in boot camp were also Eagle Scouts. We even have a Girl Scout Gold Medal mom that I met here on N4M but since there isn't a GS Gold Medal group, she's here, but her daughter worked just as hard as our boys to earn that special rank. The military is a wonderful extension for scouts, work hard, set goals, earn rank....just like their life in the Navy. Tell your son good luck in boot camp, he'll do fine. We are here for you if you have any questions about boot camp, A school...anything, we're all levels of experience in this group. Glad to have you aboard. God bless your recruit and your family

Christine, thanks & congrats on having your sailor home with you right now. I was so excited when I found this group. It is hard to believe that there are people out there that don't understand what the earning of the Eagle Scout rank all involves. We have about 2-3 Scouting families that are already planning on joining us for PIR & he will be leaving on 8-2.

Wow, it's hard to believe that tonight is the one year anniversary of Christian reporting to the hotel before swearing into the Navy tomorrow morning and shipping off to bootcamp. This time last year we were having dinner in Sacarmento with him, tonight we're having dinner with him at home and will send him back to San Diego on Thursday night. It's been a great visit. Hope everyone is well...and welcome to the newbie :-)
