The walls do seem to have an echo to them, don't they?  Plus, when our sailor left, so did all the kids who spent hours at our house.  To drop from cooking for about 6 every night to just 2 was really weird.

Now, four years later, I never seem to have enough time for everything I do.  My hubby is technically retired at 58, but he works 4 part time jobs.

Day 1 of the empty nest. My daughter just left for boot camp today. I'm proud of her but I already miss her terribly. This is the first time I've had an empty nest in 35 years. I hope I can adjust. Right now I feel numb.

shermb--make every minute you have with your sailor count!  I believe you can still get a pass to sit with him at the airport until his plane leaves, if that works in your time schedule.

Our sailors birthday is this week.  We went to the Dollar Store and bought all sorts of silly cards to fill up his mailbox.  I got one that says he's a bad influence on me--seems whenever we see him, he's found a new beer I should try.  Oh my--trying to get that weight off is impossible!

Thanks for the welcome, Carols Kitchen! My son's PIR is this weekend and then he will be flown out on Sat. to Florida. He is a little older at 29 but it's still hard to see him go. Even though we have been "empty nesters" for a while, Brian was within a 30 minute drive from us and would come home about once a week. He has graduated from college and worked since then, but, as I said, has always been close by. Having him join the Navy is a whole different ball game that most people don't seem to understand so I don't say much anymore. Anyway, I have found NFM to be very helpful in getting through BC and now on to A school. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better. Go Navy!
