Hi, Tenn Navy Mom-

I am so glad that your son was with you.  It seems like when they come home it goes faster than when they are away.   I am still hoping that my Cub will come home on leave in about 2 months.  We shall see.  He is telling me that he might be deployed in the fall.  I will cross that bridge when I come to that one!   Hoping you are well.

Thank you for your greeting, Daysleeper!  I hope your son gets an assignment in San Diego one day soon.  I hear it's very nice and very expensive too.  I'm a bit embarrassed to ask this but what exactly is "C School"?  My son has not gotten a tattoo yet but he's talked about it.  He married in July this past year and perhaps his wife has her own opinion about it, lol.

mamabeans, I am so happy for you!  I know what it was like to get that first phone call.  My son also split his time in half with me and his girlfriend (now his wife).  It does make your day better, doesn't it?!

Got my first phone call from SR in bootcamp today!  SOOO excited!  It has been a long 5 weeks with no call!!  He got a 20 min call and split it 10/10 with me and gf... ready for this... wait for it..... HE CALLED ME FIRST!!  i know its silly to be excited about that but it means SO much to me that he called me first!  He is doing really well.  I held it together well until I had to say goodbye and then i somewhat lost it emotionally.  He was strong and didn't seem to waiver but I know in his head he was emotional.  Today is going to be a good day!

Meryl--our son renelisted last fall to take him to 10 years active.  We've been happy following him to his bases so far.  (Except Groton-- he was only sent there for 3 months for additional sub welding certification and it was in the winter.)

Thanks for the warm welcome, carols kitchen!  My son has signed up for six years and I hope he will be happy with the Navy.

Welcome meryl (ship 09 division 208)   Your sailor has traveled if from Texas to GL to Groton to San Diego!  Wow.

Hello everyone.  I am new to this group.  I didn't realize there was an "emptynesters" group until a few minutes ago.  I would have joined it long ago.  My son will be completing A-School in Groton, CT (Fire Control Technician, submarine) on April 5th and leave for San Diego on the 7th. I miss him dearly and lately I've been feeling that this is where the real separation begins.  He'll be so far away from Texas.  I look forward to being a part of this group.

Daysleeper-

I didn't get to make the corned beef and cabbage yet.  I will for sure, however.  Thank you for the recipe.   My husband wanted chicken instead and baked potatoes on Saturday.   My husband passed his General Ham license on Saturday morning, and he was so happy!!!   Lots of radio!!!

Oh no, mamabeans, I'm so sorry that happened to you!  I know just how you must have felt.  I remember going out anxiously to the mailbox and feeling so sad when there wasn't a letter from my son. But take heart.....when a letter comes it will be so exciting it will make up for all the other days!   Also, I'm with you on going into their room......it gives me both sad and happy feelings.  My son has been gone over a year now but his room is still basically the same (minus the dirty clothes on the floor!) because he hasn't had enough time off to come home and pack things up.  Someday I'll need to move on and pack up his room but for now I'm leaving it alone.  Hugs to you...hang in there you're not crazy at all, just a caring, loving mom who misses her son but things will get better as time goes on.

I ran out today while my mailman was arriving to give him some letters for my boy at bootcamp.... Him:  "hey there, got some mail for you!"  Me:  (all excited that I got a letter from my son in bootcamp) "Nice, your my favorite person today!"  Him:  Hands me a Maurices brochure catalog and an electric bill.  Me:  "oh.  gee thanks"  AS I WALK BACK TO THE HOUSE CALLING HIM VERY BAD NAMES IN MY HEAD.
