Laura just reminded me.  Be sure your sailor still has minutes on his/her calling card when they leave bootcamp.  With any luck, another sailor will loan them their cell phone to give a call, but it's just in case.

Just got back from PIR. Got to see my sailor son 2 whole days. He is now in San Antonio, but since I didn't go to the airport and give him his phone or other devices, I haven't heard a peep out of him.

Having a really hard time letting go of my baby but I know the Navy will take good care of him.

my son didn't tell me that we could go to MEPS with him and I assume it was because he was worried that he would cry if we were there.

Absolutely go to MEPS with your son! It really helped knowing he was not alone and we were able to be in the room for the swearing in.

We just got back from PIR. Worth every minute and penny. I'll never forget them marching in! As you get closer to the date it does get less painful and more exciting. He has called us everyday since arrived in Conn. He is very happy and that makes it easier.

Welcome Donna646.  Our son did not tell us we could go to MEPS with him.  Hope you can.

The first four weeks are the hardest.  We are here for you and to answer any questions.

Hi everyone,

My son goes to the Recruiter tomorrow and off to Boot Camp on Wednesday. That will leave my husband and I emptynesters. Wow!!!!!

Welcome here4kids. It's definitely a shocker when you turn around and they are all gone. Things will never be the same, but I promise that you will learn to adjust. It's wonderful when they come home on leave and heartbreaking when you put them on the plane to leave again. But they will always be your baby, so you accept the new normal. You slowly begin to fill in the void with other things. I have learned from experience, that it upsets them if they think you have not moved on. We are here for you, so vent away!
