My son is enlisting in the Navy and wants to be EOD.  He has completed his physical, passed his PST and his ASVAB scores are great.  He is currently going each Wednesday to Warner Robins, GA to do the PST again each week.  The recruiter has told him that his name and information will be sent to Tennessee to see if he is chosen for a slot.  Does anyone know how this process works and how long it takes to see if he got a slot?  I keep asking questions but I am not getting clear information from him.  Thanks!

My boyfriend went through this last year when he enlisted. There are only so many open spots for EOD for each region every month. So they have a review board type of process where they look at everyone in the region who currently meets the requirements for an EOD contract and they pick the people who they think are the best overall. Generally they want candidates who are exceeding the minimum PST requirements and have high ASVAB scores. There's no set time on how long it takes. The NSO/NSW coordinator for the region usually won't send their info to the review board until they think that the scores will be competitive with everyone else. My boyfriend's info got sent before the review board twice and he got his contract the second time. You can send me a message if you have any other questions! Hope this helps!
That sounds like what he is telling me.  I guess we just have to wait and see what happens each month and hopefully it won't take too long.  He is so ready to get started.  Thanks!

My son started this whole process about 6 months ago.  Passed all the PSTs and ASVAB scores.  He waited a few months to get medical clearance on some old minor knee surgery.  His original contract was for gunnery mate while in DEP.  He just got put into his first draft for EOD and got the call Tuesday that he was accepted.  Now waiting for a new contract.  Seems like a lot of waiting, but he is very excited to finally be getting what he wanted.  He graduated from Auburn University in August and stayed there instead of coming home to Texas because he wanted to stay with his recruiter.  It shouldn't take long to get the actual contract now, should it?

roxysmom1...Ours received his contract pretty quickly. About 2 weeks or so. Some did not though. I don't know the reasons. He had originally signed a SEAL contract when he began the DEP program. His EOD contract was changed over rather soon after he was accepted. I think a lot depends on the recrutiers you are working with. Good luck to you and your son.

Kelleym... Our son went through the DEP program for EOD as well. He actually started out as a SEAL candidate, but his motivator chose to recommend him for EOD instead. It was a painstakingly long wait, but he got it. I will tell you that he started out in Warner Robins, but chose to go to Marietta instead. The group up there Chief, PO and Motivator were all much more tough, but much more helpful as well. After our son got to Great Lakes, he said he was glad he made the change to Marietta. He was much more prepared. You might want to have him check with his recruiter about going to Marietta if it isn't too far. We are about the same distance from Warner Robins as we are Marietta. He went every Friday, but also met up with some of the other guys and they worked out together. They had a real bond before they left. Unfortunately they all left at different times. He trained for 8 months before he left and he was actually hoping for a few more weeks.

We live in Locust Grove so we are about in the middle also.  I will make that suggestion to him.  I know he has talked with Frank Cutler in the past and he is up in Marietta so he might be interested in seeing if he can chose to go there instead.  Frank actually came down to Warner Robins a few weeks ago and gave Steven some great tips.  So, I know he has been very helpful in the past.   Thanks for the info!

KelleyM... We are just outside of Jackson.  Are you working through the Griffin Recruiting office? If so, I can ask my son to send me some contact information.  Frank is who he worked with. He is a great resource. Since he and your son have already met, I would recommend the switch.  According to our information, 85 -90% of the guys recommended from Marietta actually make it through the Special Operations program. Is your son going to the meetings in Griffin? I think they were on Thursdays before our son left. Let me know how it turns out.
Yes.  He is working through the Griffin Recruiting Office and attending meetings.  I agree with you, he should probably transfer to the Marietta location.  Thank you for your  help!

Anytime.  Keep in touch.  This site is wonderful for support and guidance. It has been tough going through the transition from DEP to Boot Camp.  Our son is currently in the RCU unit. He broke his leg almost 5 weeks in. He is recovering well, but it has pushed his finish date back quite a bit. We are hoping he will be done by Christmas. Just depends on how he heals. Let us know how yours is progressing.

my Son was with Frank as well.....

How is he doing? Our son is now in Bahrain as a MA. He lost his contract after a second injury and a long recuperation and lots of therapy. He will be there for 3 years. Where are you located? Maybe we could get together sometime.

kelleym...How is your son doing?  Haven't heard from you.
