My son is not passing his running test.  I don't even know where to write him a letter.  I am wondering what they do to help them pass, if anything.  I am worried about him getting discouraged or the training to pass.  I did talk to a veteran recently who took 3 weeks to pass his swimming...but did.  I am just sick for my son and feeling very helpless.  Any advice?

If she is determined, she will make it.  It is enormously disappointing for both you and her to miss the ceremony, but in the long run, that will pass.  Try and relax and trust her.  You will probably only hear from her every couple of weeks and then you will get a "I'm a sailor" call out of the blue.  Good luck to you both.

karenceubanks. my SR's PIR is today but will not be attending because he did not pass his run. They did put him in a program called FIT at this time I don't know how to write a letter to my SR but I have found out they once they are put into the fit program the RDC will work with the SR's until they pass as long as they keep improving.

BMays's Mom,

My son is in A school now. Once they are in FIT, they DO work with them and help them and all they are focused on is getting the SR passed and on their way.  Your SR will pass unless for some reason he gives up and chooses to quit.   My son took 4 weeks to pass his run!  He didn't do a PIR after that, he just moved on to A School.   I understand that you can send letters to the address you have for him.  Just add IN FIT.  some SR's get letters, some do not.  Mine, didn't get letters from me.  My SR barely made his run by one second on the track they were running. He was missing his time by a full minute originally.  He just told me he ran on the track in Pensicola and made his time with a full minute to spare!  At Pensicola they told him the track at Great Lakes was pressurized to mimick mountainous terrain.  There were 70 SR's in with my son that hadn't passed.  Have faith.  they will help him and you will get the call.  :)  Just know it could take a while ;)

My prayers are with you and you SR, my SR didn't complete swimming, I know it  hurts, but we have to keep the faith.

Hello everyone!  I guess this is my current landing pad as well.  My daughter was supposed to PIR on 9/27, but I received the call the week before that saying she didn't pass her run and was being moved to the fit program.  We missed PIR which was severely depressing as we are really missing her very much and wanted to see her more than anything in the world.  She is my oldest and turned 18 while in bc.  She is now on what they call LLD and they took away her boots so she can't run until they figure out if she is injured or not. (she is having a lot of pain in one of her knees)  she went for xrays and is waiting the results of that at this time.  It is rough out here to know that our children are struggling like that and it seems there is nothing we can do.  But the MOST important thing to do is stay strong, stay positive, stay supportive!! and keep sending letters or funny/encouraging cards.  I searched the web for all kinds of inspirational/motivational quotes and cartoons and printed them off for her as well as lyrics to songs that had special meaning.  Any little thing is important to them.  Sending healing thoughts and prayers for feet with wings to everyone in this group!!

We will keep encouraging each other and our Sr's :)

It's been awhile since heard from my  Sr how do i find out what is going on?

Sunshine, Your SR should get a call if his/her status changes at all.  Is he/she in FIT?  I think they get calls roughly every 2 weeks.  I had a call from my daughter last Tuesday and am hoping for another this coming week.  You could try calling the Public Affairs Office and see if they have any information.  Their number is 847-688-2405.  Hope this helps and that you hear something very soon!!
