Talbert, like sandy said, it is very common for SR to catch some cold or flue virus in boot camp. Same thing happened to my son exactly, except he failed his 2nd PFA not the final one. So he wasn't in the FIT program but I could have just as easily been here with you ladies. I got a letter from my son before the 2nd PFA saying he had been on Limited Light Duty due to blisters on his feet, and a Nasty flu virus.  My son told me that by the 4th week, everyone was ill. They all become ill in boot camp.

I am sorry your son had to go through such disappointment. I am sure he is ok and just really focusing on passing the run.

Talberts,

First, my sympathy.  That call is so hard to get, and though you may have  a million questions, they can say nothing.

Phone calls from FIT are inconsistent.  My daughter got a call on Saturday for no apparent reason and was under the impression that it was normal (but she wasn't there long enough to know normal).  They do often get to call home if they pass the run before PIR, but not if they pass after PIR.

If you do not get a call before your travel plans become critical, you can call the PAO, explain the situation, and they are generally very helpful.  This is, however, a one-time option.  Don't call until you absolutely have to know in order to decide whether to go or cancel your flight.

The best news is that your son only missed it by a few seconds.  Most of the time when they only have a few seconds, the extra work in FIT is enough to pull them through.  I think you will be at PIR proud and smiling.  If not, don't give up and REMEMBER that PIR is a show, the capping ceremony that you wouldn't see anyway is the one that counts.

talbertsbt2800- Welcome even though I am sure you wish you didn't get that call. In the fit program they will work with your son so he can pass the run. He will test like he said again monday then probably wed and or thur to see if he can pass. If he only missed it by a few seconds than he should be able to pass. Mine missed it by 30 seconds and finally passed it on thursday by only 3 seconds. I would not cancel your plans just in case he passes. Unless you bought refundable tickets  you would be out the money so might as well get a few days of vacation. We went anyway and lucky we did. I hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions.

im in West Melbourne ,Fl -Brevard county-Sandy    This is the county that took several storms back in 2004 one after another, But we got lucky this Irene stayed off our coast we have the winds and beach rip currents/erosion but September is typically more of a concern for us.  Just always be prepared with your supplies for you and your Pets.

My boy still in the rcu to doing the pneumonia therapy but as of last sunday he is better then was on his sprints. We havent received any mail from him since last week early so im hoping no bad news, he was to see the Pneumonia therapist on Monday, I think when they put them back for FFFD they dont get to call.

Also he was telling us that those in the Temp Holding Unit lost Liberty and many Privaledges B/C 2 sailors didnt show up for there watch so it screwed everyone which sucks.

Certainly hope we get a call this week end so we can let him know Hurricane Irene hasnt blown us away here yet but boy R the winds picking up.LOL

It does take a long for the pizza to cook at Giordano's, when we were there in July it took 45 minutes for the pizza, so worth the wait!

Keger2001- you are right on in getting different experiences. When we went for my oldest son they asked our name not the sailors. But that was about 6 years ago. And a lot has changed there when we went in March.

Giordano's does have the best Chicago style pizza. Just give yourself plenty of time as it takes longer to bake than normal pizza. We filled up on appetizers while it baked then couldn't eat much of it.

Sounds like we all have had a different experience when dealing with RTC. I do know my favorite Chicago Pizza is Giordano's! Hope you are able to celebrate with a few of the new Sailors, it is something they very much appreciate and will never forget your kindness.

Brendansparents- When we got to the checkin table they asked for our sailors name first. He was not on the list. So then neither was ours without his name. That is when they sent us to the other office. Maybe if he doesn't pass you can ask them if you can still go in. They may let you but I am not sure as my son did pass even though it was last minute. You could always head over to the NEX as that is where they all go after graduation. I am sure you can pick up a few there with no family there. Check with the ones from your pir group and see who is unable to go. So they can have there sr look for you. Hope that helps.
