When my son went to (A)school in GL he was put on mandatory PT. He now runs at least 10 miles a week. He says that he never wants to have trouble passing his running test again.

Sandy, is your daughter's (A)school in Great Lakes?

Hi All,

Havent been on for a bit, its hard not being able to here from your kid especially when there sick, But i am feeling sentimental today, My son sent me a Birthday Card which almost scared me b/c it was in a larger longer envelope & i began to Think it was bad news, But he remembered my Birthday which is Saturday and oh boy I will be the Big 50!   His dad just told me where do you want to go saturday, he said how about St. Augustine and i said how about Great Lakes, lol.  Lord if i knew they would let me see him for just even 5 minutes it would be worth a 20 plus hour drive.   He is still in FIT, has went back for check ups and he says they had 3 different people listen to his lungs ,finally a medical officer listened and says they sent him for blood work, the good news it came back ok but the concering news is the Dr said his airways sounded bit closed.

He is still wanting to do his best to remain and god bless him he says mom it you i think about and i see everyday to keep my spirits up and keep me wanting to become a sailor.  Oh im so in tears right now but im so happy he has emotionally and spiritually matured in the almost 3 months that the Navy has had him.

Prayers for the missing Sailor and all of them to be safe and sound.

HM:  You are with some great ladies here in FIT who will keep you encouraged, allow you to vent, and share in your excitement when she passes!

Once stationed, they test every 6 mos so all of the sailors have to stay in shape. My son was stationed in May 2010, got tested in Oct, and then again in April.

I'm hopeful that the call will be next week (tomorrow would be great, but I don't think that is realistic).  Thanks for the support and prayers.

My son had to take 1min 30 seconds and it took him 3 tries( the thur before his PIR, the following Monday and the following Wed he passed), But he was determined that he was going to graduate before the next group of recruits did their PIR. In other words, his PIR was the 15th of July (which he missed) and he was done by the next PIR which was the 22nd.

For those of you who have kids that have made it through FIT and gone on to navy careers, how much running time did they need to catch up and how long did it take.  My daughter needs to take off a minute and 15 seconds.  That doesn't seem like much to me, but I have never tried to do it.

Sharon, I am so proud of your son and happy for you.

I think when you have to work harder for something it means more.

Congratulations!

HM - my son made his run on a Tues morning and then did B/S with another division.  I didn't hear anything until Wed afternoon - "I am a Sailor" call.  I would have loved everything to go smoothly for him - but he's so proud that he overcame his medical issues and got that Navy cap.  The pride he carries within him is worth so much more than a ceremony.  Prayers for your daughter - she will pass!
