Passed out, wow! that had to be scary for the parents to see..

The Navy just can't make anything easy, Jon forgot to pay for his photo's before he left for San Antonio this week and so he called last night and gave me his credit card number and asked me to call and pay for them for him and have them sent here to the house, so I just did and they said they have to email a form to fill out and I have to mail it back then they will send them. The only good thing about that is they will let me know what he ordered and I can add to it if I want but I can't take anything off the order.

Sandy, if my son did not have a PIR I would feel like I missed out. I would feel kind of sad but at the same time, I am still just as proud of my Sailor.

I remember at my son's PIR one of his division shipmates passed out from standing still too long. This happened in almost every division.

keger, I am crying as I read your post. When I asked my son that question he gave me the same answer.

HM, you are right. The ceremony after Battle Stations is very emotional. When they place their hat on their head, they know it is Official, and they have earned it.

The PIR Ceremony is more a time to be Proud and show off for us parents. They can do the same thing by letting us take a million photos of them in uniform,LoL.

HM, Jon said that he wasn't that worried about the graduation ceremony, he would have liked to have been there but he was more concerned about just getting out of boot. I asked him if he cried when he got his Navy hat at the capping ceremony and he said..almost..but he said he held on to the hat for about 3 hours very tightly, and it is now his most prized possession.

Although it is disappointing not to have a PIR, lets remember that the ceremony that really counts is the capping ceremony after battlestations.  It has to be even more meaningful for those that worked extra to get there.

Praying for all the recruits in FIT and their families, you will get through this traumatic time, and your Sailors will be all the better for this experience.

keger, I do too. LoL. I think we handle things differently then men. Men don't understand us. They think we are losing are minds when we are just worrying.

keger, I agree!!  After the torture of boot camp they should be able to have the PIR experience. After going through the trauma of not passing and being sent to FIT. They deserve a PIR more than any Sailor.

keger, when my son called to tell my husband that he did not pass his 2nd PFA. His Chief was standing over his shoulder. My son sounded very upset. My hubby asked to speak to his Chief. The Chief got on the phone and said that our son was having lots of trouble with the 1.5 mile run. and, if he does not pass than he won't be at PIR. My hubby thanked the Chief for all his hard work and told him to do what ever it takes to make him pass. The Chief said: I will!  Maybe this will drive it home. And he will pass next time.

I know I drove my hubby crazy asking him to repeat this conversation over and over and over again.
