And the new bc grad is definitely messing with him.  It is NOT easy.  About week 3 he will start wondering why he joined the Navy, but by the time you see him at PIR, he will be a different person full of confidence and glad he stuck it out.

Dawn, look above in the discussion forum.  There's one that explains the jobs of GM.  If he's got an attitude, tell him you're going to send him love by way of boxes of cookies and brownies during boot camp.  When a new recruit gets a box from home (NOT the thing to do!), his RDC will call him into the office and ask him to open the box.  Then his instructors will eat everything while he does 8 counts or mountain climbers or something like that.  Really, don't send him boxes, but threaten him.  Have him ask the recruiter what would happen if he doesn't believe you.

just curious about the job and the school?  we really don't know anything about it.  he loves guns and he plays video games but he's not an obsessive gamer.  He recently had someone that just graduated boot camp tell him boot camp is easy and almost a joke so of course he won't listen to us about getting ready and in better shape...what do we know right??!?!! I sure hope they can knock out his know it all attitude

My son is attached to the Seals, but I don't think he's anywhere near where they are.  I got to talk to him yesterday for quite awhile and he led me to believe he's someplace very secure. About five years ago he had an apartment in Norfolk, and I went to visit.  I was amused the entire visit--he had a revolving door, it seemed, for GM's coming and going.  I cooked, they played Xbox and compared this gun to that gun 24/7.

Ruth, my son is a true GM too....loves guns and games!!! Isn't that awesome?  Tyler is attached to a Seabee Battalion and I feel he's a lot safer since he's only deployed to war zones every other deployment and they spend a good bit of time on the Seabee base for homeport.  Dawn, just take a deep breath and enjoy the time between now and September...it will be here before you now it.

Relax, nervous mama!  My son has been in for 8 years and loves being a GM.  He recently went to Afgh. for the second time. He's in a very safe place considering where he is. I think they have a safer job thanbeing  on top of a carrier deck, but that's just my opinion.  I've found that GM's have a common personality--they love guns and they are gamers.  Is your son?

Welcome in Dawn, what questions have you? Fire away. GM is a great rate. Many options, many schools, advancements at the moment are good, choice of ships, directions they can choose from. He will love it. So, go ahead and ask on!
