I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

Hi Navy Moms! I'm a DEPer, shipping off to boot camp in Feb 2011. Just wanted to say this site is awesome and I'm glad my mom has a place to go to chit chat with other Navy Moms. Anyone have a son or daughter leaving in Feb?

Thanks everyone. Can't thank you Moms enough for how much you support and encourage us! <3

My daughter just finished GM A school.Below is her timeline since joining the Navy. She only had 27 days of hold time which is great considering how long some have been on hold for. It pretty much follows Sunny -Meaghan's Mom's timeline except no SCC. I think they rolled SCC into boot camp now and ATT took her a little longer.
Started boot camp 01/12/2010
Graduated boot camp 03/05/2010
Moved from RTC to NTC on 03/10/2010
Indoc till from 03/11/2010 till 03/18/2010
Hold from 03/19/2010 till 04/11/2010
Apprentice Technical Training (ATT) from 04/12/2010 till 05/21/2010
Hold 05/22/2010 till 05/24/2010
GM A school 05/25/2010 till 09/17/2010

Sunny - Thanks for filling in the gaps! I imagine you're getting geared up for BC. Good luck to you and your daughter. It's like a roller coaster ride until you see, hug & kiss them at PIR. Squeeze in as much time with her as you can before she leaves.

Hi GG! My daughters a GM as well, but she doesn't leave for BC till 10/6. This is the basic process that was described to me when I asked the same question.

A) Boot Camp (8 or so weeks)
B) Indoc (1 week)
C) SCC - Basic Seamanship (1 week)
D) ATT - Basic Electricity and Electronics (2-3 weeks)
E) GM A school (115 days)
F) GM C school (? # of days)

My son graduated BC 9/2 and is a GM. He just started ATT classes last Friday. I was a little suprised he was "in limbo" for 2 weeks before any classes started. Maybe they had to wait for enough to start a new group?? Any idea how long ATT lasts before the actual GM school starts? Sorry for so many questions! We haven't been able to talk to him much since PIR...I just shipped his cell and laptop so that will change!!!

My daughter is officially rated a Gunners Mate. She finished last Thursday. She is soooooo excited to be DONE!!! She will be stationed on the USS Stennis out of Bremerton WA and she doesn't plan to do C school anywhere. She loves the guns. She will come home for the first time since she left for bootcamp February 2nd on October 1st. They will still be in dress whites which is so cool. She graduated in dress blues. She carried our WA state flag at PIR so it has been a pretty "proud Mom" thing. I am excited to see her and experience a more mature, self confidant woman!

Thanks Kelly. I don't know what she wants either. I thought she was told they would assign her depending on how well she does (small arms, missiles,etc.). Guess I will wait and see. She is very excited to start this phase.

My daughter just graduated BC 9/10 and is a GM. Am anxious to learn more about what she will be doing. Wonder how many girls are in this field.

Toni, that is awesome. My GM daughter got her orders today to leave Great Lakes on the 1st of October, but no mention of a graduation date? She still has a couple of weeks left. Where is your daughter going? I went to PIR but there's no way I could afford to go to GM graduation too:(
So time frame wise, my daughter got to Great Lakes on February 4th and she will be leaving on October 1st. Almost 6 months. That is a lot better than some of the earlier posts that said their Sailor had been there about a year. They have tried to speed up the wait time.
