I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

Tyler is in his first weekend on the USS Enterprise. He is off this weekend, with onbase liberty. No duty, no watcfh. What things can he do to fill his weekend?

Hi, everybody! I haven't been on here for quite awhile. Life gets in the way, you know! Tonight I'm in my son't apt. just north of GL where he's a GM and recruit instructor. I was able to get his little girls for a long weekend, so we're here till Sunday afternoon. Tomorrow--maybe the base, but I think the zoo will win instead.

Hi Newbie, The SCC stands for Surface Common Core which is a do over (more in depth) of what the learned in boot. ATT is Advanced Technical Training which gets them ready for their course of study ie: electrical circuitry, hydraulics etc. SCC is about 1 week and ATT is about 4 weeks.

Ok, newbie here. What is SCC and ATT? It looks like these are done in front of going to A-school.

Hello ladies,my son Brett is a GM, just graduated A School. His PIR was on 01/09/2009. You can do the math. The good news is that the schools have gone to an instructor based system instead of self paced study. So the classes are moving some what quicker. But, they still have a lot of holding. The average wait after ATT seems to be about 5 weeks now. As of today Brett has been in schooling for 217 days not counting boot. So hang in there, it is going to be a long and frustrating ride. Check the "ask the sdc" page. At the top is a link to GM A school time lines. Hope this helps. Have a great weekend. Godspeed to our Sailors!

Hi everyone....
I was reading the posts below and it looks like my sailor grandson may be in the same A school class as your sailors..Beth, MB and Susie. He is in day classes and started on July 8th. I haven't talked with him this week, so didn't know the class was put on manditory last week. I would guess that is the only way they can get them all to graduate together in this new pilot program. GOOD LUCK to all the sailors who started their GM A school. It's nice to know that some of our kids may be in class together....esp. after getting to know the families on this site....

Welcome to you Becky....you have joined a great group. We are all here to support you as a new Navy Mom....(((HUGS)))

Hi there, Karen C......how are you doing today?
