I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

Hi Barb.....So glad Chris is keeping busy while on hold in San Diego and as you will find out when you come to California, it is very nice down there....you will really enjoy your trip.

Yeah you can build up 60 days then start losing it. Our guys have a long way to go before they have that, or at least mine does.

Yes, leave can be carried over. I forget what the max is but it is a lot like build up to 60 days or so. I will ask my husband for the exact amount.

Joyce, I see that Hoppi is a member on this site. You might want to pose that question to her...

Joyce, I don't understand it all...I copied the comment from Hoppi on the Great Lakes A School Q&A...if you aren't a member on that site, your question would be a good one on there for Hoppi or Will. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Vee

So are you saying that if your sailor graduated boot camp and is in A school, even though he has been on hold, this will not affect him?

Regarding the PCS holds, here is a website to help clarify it for you. Kudos to Hoppi on the Great Lakes A School Q&A site for this link

"FYI new new accessions means people who are from bootcamp right to "A" School....BUT the new accessions who have to go to a "C" school will be affected."

Susie, I see you already belong to the Great Lakes A School Q&A (formerly Ask the SDC....go ahead and ask your question on there for Will to answer.
Have a good day! Vee

Susie, I believe I have seen your question about GPA and dream list on Will's site ASK THE SDC...I do think GPA has something to do with getting a higher pick on their dream list, but I am sure Will has said that the Navy will put them where they need them. You might want to ask that question on the Ask the SDC site. Vee

Susie, while you are thinking about your kids leaving as they become the adults you nurtured and guided, just remember that the grandkids will follow someday! The old saying goes if I'd known how much fun it was, I'd have skipped the kids and gone straight for the grandkids! Not necessarily the case because my kids were fun (mostly, but not always), but the granddaughters we have are real gifts. We get them twice a month for weekends; today we took them to the IMAX for the first time to see Under the Sea, then to the local university for an Irish "hooley" (party/dance), and out to eat before taking them back to their mom. They didn't get to see their daddy this time, but he talked to them several times. He was on base taking the motorcycle safety course all weekend.

I do know that a GM can be stationed anywhere, even at Davis Monthan in Tucson! I think Gabe needs to do sea duty first though. How about Bremerton? I love that area. Norfolk would be so far away. I don't know about others though Andy thought about Dallas and Corpus Christi.
