I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

God bless you Vivian and Glen....I hope it does get easier for you. I'm a grandma of a sailor and it is terribly difficult for me to have him gone for so long. I haven't heard from him now in awhile and I'm getting impatient to know how he is going in ATT school. He should be finishing up soon. I hope Danny doesn't have to wait too long for A school. What division was Danny in in BC? Hang in there and know you get lots of support on here. Vee :~}

I'm a Navy dad - and haven't been on here much since Danny finished boot camp. He just called last night and told us he finished ATT; expects to start A school in 4-7 days. We'll see how long his hold is. I have to comment on missing the kids over the holidays...Danny's our youngest and we moved from Albany NY to Virginia the day after he left for boot camp (Nov 4). He never got to make the "safe arrival" call and never could call on Thanksgiving so that was a very painful holiday. By Christmas we'd gotten one phone call so we felt better but that was a very hard day for his Mom and I both. I figured Easter would be no big deal - then as we gathered for dinner with our older two kids home and I said the blessing for the food I couldn't hold it together. We still miss him even though he's been gone 5 1/2 months. And he's still stationed in the States!

Barb - about how long was your son's GM A School if I may ask?

Barb...maybe Michael and your son can change places if Michael gets the east coast. lol lol I just sent you a "friend" request. My family in SoCal loves SeaWorld in San Diego. My daughter makes the 100 mile trip about twice a month from her home. The zoo is a must see, also. I've lived away from SoCal for 15 years now so am not too up on the San Diego area except it is one of my favorite places in California because it is right on the ocean. I'll get some ideas from my daughter (Michael's mother) and let you know. I sure am keeping my fingers crossed that Michael will get San Diego after A school. HAGN

Good morning everyone! I hope you all have a great day~~

Susie, to answer your question about getting used to "not having them around", I will have to say no. I am a great-grandmother, single, and live 250 miles from my closest family and I don't think I will ever get used to spending holidays alone. My sailor is my youngest grandson and I miss him so much.
I know it has to be difficult for you with your hubby gone, too. Thank goodness that is just temporary.

Barb, sounds like you were one of the lucky mothers only missing one holiday with your son. Michael is hoping he gets San Diego when he finished A school in GL. Most of my family lives in California and Michael's home town is only about 90 miles from San Diego. You will really enjoy the San Diego area when you are here.

About Susie's son Gabe--my son saw him in a wheelchair and got the whole story earlier this week. When Susie didn't say anything, I worried that she didn't know, so I didn't say anything--that was hard! If you have someone at GL, my son is now one of the weapons instructors there.

I think this is the group that had discussions about airlines around Christmas time. I don't want to go back a hundred pages to find it! I just wanted to pass on something about Northwest Airlines. Because of the flood in Fargo, ND, 48 residents and 25 employees of a nursing home were flown to eastern Iowa to a sister facility. They flew back today, and the PGR went with a flag line this morning. That's not normal, but we had gone to visit the veterans yesterday (and everyone else there). The entire bill for the charter flights was forgiven by Northwest Airlines.

Kori, Logan is in my prayers. Keep us posted. Patty, the luxury life. Puts everything into perspective doesn't it. Matt said he was going to bed early in his sweatsuit hoping to warm up. lol
