I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

Hello everyone...My grandson has been sick frequently, too...I was blaming it on the fact that he is a "California Boy" in Chicago weather, but am wondering if he had been on the ship with the black mold. He had allergies when he was younger, but had outgrown them.
KoriBrady - what ship is Logan in now?? Michael is now on the Porter, but was on the Enterprise for BCC back in late January, and one other before moving to the Porter. He is now on hold for ATT school. His PIR was 01-09-09 and he has completed Phase 2.

Hi Kori, sorry to hear of Logan's troubles. Check with William on Ask the SDC on this site. He has personal contact with many of the Sailors and many answers you made need. As for the GM C schools, the 3" is in VA and the 5" in SD. The school length is in months,not weeks. My bad.

That is partially true,GM A-school is in GL, then some may go off to C-school located in Norfolk and SD as the major places (ports). Does not mean that if in SD that will be the port that your sailor will ship out of, their ship's port may be clear across the continent! And not all are going to go to C-school, but may ship out to their ship instead. They can request to attend C-school at a later date, as many do. A-school is self paced, so the timing varies. C-school is class based, for 3 months. Patty, you are correct, they do have to have the requirements signed off on, and once all those for that contract (phase)is finished, they pass and get to that phase. It is like moving up in an "employment ladder" so to speak. Hope this adds to the knowledge base a little!

Hi Kori, my son is doing Gm and is on hold for ATT now. He told me that depending on which gun you specialize in, 3" or 5" determines where they go. I believe 3" is in Norflok and 5" is in San Diego or the other way around, not sure. And I think he said it was a 2-3 week course. If you want, I can find out definate info and let you know. Bill

No problem, I can always be there to give some insight, however..just remember it is from MY experience, and could always be wrong. I do know tho, that the phases are rewarding. They have to earn the privledge, it isnt just given to them. I can't give all the real particulars of how they earn it exactly, as I had 2 up in GL not long ago (they have moved on to other endeavors now!) and each one had some differences in the timing and things they had to do. Nite all! :0}

Kim Ann, thanks for the info on the phases as I have never really understood the term....I'm learning, tho. Good night all Moms....catch you over the weekend!

Phases are like rewards, they earn the privledges to have off base liberty, overnight liberty, wear civilian clothing, have electronic gizmo's, etc.

Hi again, Theresa...Hello Beth and Patty....
Beth and Patty, when was your son's PIR? My grandson's was 01-09-09. He has completed his SCC and his his Phase 2 and is on hold for ATT school. I'm kinda trying to figure out where he is in the number system. He hasn't said.
Theresa I left you a PM on your page.....Have a great weekend! Vee

My son called this morning from GL. He took the PO1 test this morning. He'd been lead to believe that the test was about the Navy, not GM. He said he'd been lied to because it was 75% about GM with questions like "What GM manual applies to this situation?" He said he didn't expect to pass the first time anyway, so now he knows what to study. He'll be home this weekend--woo hoo--and his little girls will come to visit, too, to see their daddy.
