I thought it would be great to get a group together of people who have a Gunners Mate in training or one on duty. I hope we can all give each other a little insight as to what is in store for our Navy Men and Women!!

Hey Beth, I feel your pain. Check my page to see my postings. My boy finished SCCon 02/11 and he won't start ATT for at least 4-5 weeks. Keep in touch. Things may move faster than we think. Bill

Barb, I am sure as a mom it is hard to think of your son so far away, but at least it is somehwere exciting and fun to visit. What is his C school and how long is it? How many go straight to A school. Kim, keeping my fingers crossed for Josh. Let me know when you find out what his orders are. Matt has about two weeks left of ATT then hopefully a short hold until A school. He is doing very well so far.

Hi All, Josh should finish GM A school in just a few weeks. He is very excited and hopes to get his orders soon. Several others have already received their orders, so he is hoping no news is good news. He is hoping they are looking for what he wants to do. It's a wait and see!

Hi Theresa...go to the top of this page above the picture of Kathy Ellingston and you will see two categories: ALL GROUPS and MY GROUPS. Click on ALL GROUPS and search for Ask the SDC...if this doesn't work for you, let me know and I'll send you a direct link....you then have to join the group if you wish to add comments. It is a fairly new group and I went back and read all the comments and got great information. Good luck! Vee

Hi all, If you are not a member of the "Ask the SDC" group, I highly recommend it. I can assure you that you will get most if not ALL your questions answered on there. My sailor is on hold, also, waiting to be classed up to A school. His PIR was 01-09-09. He has completed his SCC on the Enterprise and is now been assigned to the USS Porter while he waits. He does have his cell phone and his computer. His parents took them to him right after he graduated from BC. Please try the group I mentioned and pay specific heed to the comments from "Will Barton" and "Hoppi/Angie"...God bless all of you, Vee(grandmother of Michael)

Susie, my sailor met Gabe tonight! They were at the mall. He said he answered lots of questions, told Gabe not to go to a frigate and that he needed a haircut! He told a sailor with Gabe to start wearing a jacket--it's 15 degrees and has been snowing all day there. I asked about the frigate and he said they are always out to sea. So he looked out for you! He considered giving them a ride back to base, but decided that might not be ok. I think he has to be in public places with them. Andy also told me that a new building is being commissioned next Friday, the one that he works in--USS Missouri, I think. He's sick and so am I (colds, virus). I hope I got it all straight!

My son moved to the other side Wednesday following PIR as well. I think that is fairly normal.

My son has had his cell phone and laptop the entire time he has been at NTC, with the exception of the first couple of days while it was being shipped to him. He has an AT&T aircard for his computer. It worked great in two of the ships he has been on, but has very poor strength in this ship. Good news is he will move after ATT, or at least he expects to. My son had a good friend that graduated from BC after he did. The good friends parents brought his cell phone and some civies and left them with my son. As soon as his friend was able to have them, like a couple of days he had his phone in his hand which was nice. Of course, he couldn't wear his civies right away. Joyce Tucson Mom is right that moving around like they do they meet lots of people. In fact, I am so blessed. My son and three of his sailor friends are coming home this weekend. We can't wait to have them in our home for the weekend. We live about five hours from GL, just within the 300 miles radius limit. Once again, I feel very blessed.

Kelly, My son has moved to three different ships while awaiting A school. He expects at least one more move.

My son at GL who is going through orientation to be an instructor there called me today. He said he had a morning long class about fraternization. He specifically asked if your sailors on hold or in A school could have contact with him. He was told no problem--they can meet for lunch or at the NEX, etc. on base. He'd be happy to talk to them about being in the fleet. He asked about Gabe and told me to tell him it would be ok to call him.
