My two will be having duty to keep on Thanksgiving Day, but I will be going up and preparing a Thanksgiving meal for later in the evening for them, and for the next two days! Of course, that is the PRESENT plan! (Always in the works to possibly change! HA!) :0}

KJ, thanks for chatting last night. It is great to hear information about what my son is heading in to. Can;t wait for his PIR. Ladies, what is everyone hearing about Thanksgiving? How much time will your sailors have off?

Here are some places that came up by googling "riverines."

The last one is quite good including this paragraph: In addition to patrolling the waterways and boat interdiction, the sailors, commonly known as riverines, are also responsible for the security of the Hadithah Dam, sweeping the islands for weapon caches, and providing security and support for the adjacent ground units within the regiment.

My son will PIR on 11-14. He just changd rates. He is now going to be a GM. I am interested in learning all there is to know. So far I can see why he choose it. Sounds like something he will be interested in. I am glad he will be in GL for awhile since we are only 5.5 hrs away. I am reading the blogs and trying to understand at this point. Forgive me in advance for all the simple question I am sure I will ask. Looking forward to talking with each one of you. Are there any other mothers whose recruits graduate 11-14 that will be going on to GM?

Where are these commercials? Not here in the midwest that I know of...My son was going to do Riverines before he got orders to Afghanistan, so we had done a lot of research about them. They patrol the rivers and canals of Iraq in boats. As I told Joyce, start buying Hot Hands (hand warmers) to send them because it's cold work in the winter. I am guessing there are other places than Iraq, too, but I don't know about them. Not Afghanistan--no water!

Hi Barb, I bet he is ready to get on with it by now!! I hope he got some liberty time this weekend to go out and have fun!! I know Josh has and it's been a good breather since PIR for him. He did Chicago and Six Flags, so hopefully he'll be ready to get back at it tomorrow.
