Finally my son class up today. He's has afternoon classes. He had hope to get morning classes so he would be able to have the rest of the day for himself. Well I guess its better than having evening classes. He said its about a month long ATT school.

Robert called saturday, he recieved his orders. From what he said , he finishes ATT near the end of Feb. but gave no sepecific date then he has 4 days to report to Kings Bay, GA. He hopes to come home and pickup his car then drive down to GA. More gray hair for me. He was a bit bummed out on the phone, appears when he was in the Lib ctr someone walked off with the wrong P-coat. I hope they discover they have the wrong one, it was $350 and I don't think he took another coat with him. He said that his name and SS are in it so maybe it will turn up. He is 6'5'' so I said to look for someonne who may have on one that is a bit too long. I am sure they just grapped the wrong coat but he is upset as he is tryign to save all of his extra cash. He also said it was really cold can not wait till he gets to GA. It is snowing AGAIN in MI. I haven't seen the ground on our proerty since Nov. It is expected to go down to 5 below this week or colder, so GA is sounding real good to mom right about now too.

I've started a discussion topic above to make it a little easier for us parents of BESS class 09120 to find out who's on the site.

I know what you mean Mom Stew, my son Zach isn' t the most communicative either. I guess I'm fortunate that with my background I at least know what questions to ask, so it's harder for him to blow me off. :-) Our boys appear to be classmates, wonder how many others are in this group. What about it folks? - howzabout a roll call for BESS class 09120?

I missed Mom Stew's post - no, her son won't redo "A" school after BESS. I was a nuc, so I didn't go to BESS; but I do know that the "non-technical" rates (YN-yeoman, SK-storekeeper, CS-culinary specialist, and HM-corpsman) go to BESS as the last step before reporting to subs. Sub Corpsmen, BTW also go to a school for Independent Duty Corpsman (I think before BESS), which is pretty intense from what I gather. The big benefit to the MMs, ETs, FTs, and STs by doing BESS first is that sailors start drawing sub pay once they complete BESS, which is pretty nice.

Dianne, SK is Storekeeper (aka Box-kickers, according to my son). There's usually only one on a boat, and it's a pretty key rate, since all supplies coming to the boat have to go through him and the Supply Officer (aka Chop). The SKs I knew on the boats were top-notch guys that have a heckuva lot of responsibility.

Hey Kirsten Im glad Lee is classing up. My son Dan is still waiting. I text him a while ago and told him about Lee. He said they still have him on hold. Hope its not for to long.

By the way, I served as a Nuc on subs, and while I'm tickled to death that my son will be sharing many of my experiences, in retrospect, I would have swapped four months on the boat for four months cleaning in "A" school in a heartbeat, so while boring - trust me, it's not a bad thing...

Thanks for the info Susan, sonar techs are STS (Sonar Tech, Subs), one of the SECF rates - he's probably on hold for ATT (Advanced Tech Training I think), which comes before ST "A" school. Nice to know Zach will be in Groton for the better part of the year.
