sbarber, they do have a Travel Agent type office on base. I saw it last weekend when I visited my son.  It was closed on Sunday, but the sign said they were open to 5pm during the week & 1/2 the day on Saturday, I think.

Gayle - my son will be going to King's Bay too, what sub is your son on?

My understanding is that they get 14 days depending on how much they have earned to that point.

Hi Cheri,

My son also grads Dec 9th. He told me their class is one of the few that get extra time because of the timing of graduation and stand down.  He will report to King's Bay, GA by Jan 4th.

Well I have made some calls and sent several emails today but no answers hopefully tomorrow :-) I was assured that after school they are guaranteed 30 days of leave before their first duty station and that was in person at my local recruiters office yesterday but.....we all know how that goes LOL

Diana It probably depends upon what sub he is assigned to and when it is scheduled to deploy.  Also if he has leave left, but I know that they can "borrow" leave from future leave to be earned.  And while they are on the sub they won't be using it so that is something to keep in mind

When the sailors finish their A school do they for sure get to come home for a good period of time before leaving for their 1st assignment?  My son doesn't want to use up any of his leave now because he wants to be able to come home for 3-4 weeks between A school and going on the sub.

I know it seems like our guys don't know a bunch of details either they don't pay attention or they get a different answer all the time.

Thanks Barber for any info you find out

I wonder if they have that travel assistance thing on base like was in the "form" letter? I think I will make a few calls and see what I can find out because these guys don't seen to know a lot about that stuff. I have been on my son for days to find out this information as well, maybe they just don't have time IDK but I know we all want them home for Christmas I was told that the stand down was from 12/16-01/03. If that helps anyone. If I get any good info I will be sure to post it and would appreciate the same. Have a good day everyone.

I would be interested to hear about what kind of schedule there is for the shuttle to Providence also.  I already booked my son's flight and purposely tried not to make it too early.  I asked him to double check the shuttle schedule but he has not got back to me on that one yet.  I am looking forward to having him home for Christmas.

I was worried about the same thing, not sure of the schedule but I believe my daughter booked his flight pretty early as he gets here at 11:30 in the morning or course there is a 2 hour difference but he still has to be leaving pretty early.  If you get a chance talk to your Sailor about what works best for him.
