Kathleen, Charlotte - it sounds from our comments that there must be a lot of deployment gearing up! My son is on a sub so they don't call in at ports very often, but they are usually out for a shorter amount of time, depending on the mission. He also tells me that being stationed in Guam, the subs have a better (shorter) deployment time because they are in the theater rather than having to travel from HI or WA. While he is gone I am planning to email every day or two - just like has been recommended (I think on the sub mom's page), because they can only send or receive when they are at communication depth.
kathleen, does your son know when he is leaving and where they are going? You don't need to type it on here but they usually have an idea of when they leave, where they are going and approx how long they will be gone. At least if the girlfriend gets a job she will have some socializing!
kathleeng, the deployments seem to work different according to ship or sub. The longest my sons ship has been gone is 5 or 6 weeks. They docked in several different ports and had liberty to go and see the places. Like I said he is IT so he is usually available via email. I know the other sailors get a chance to check email but the internet is often down or malfunctioning! lol. Prayers that his girlfriend finds a job. She is going to be lonely while he is gone :(
I was just thinking about how quiet our group has been!! Thanks for kick starting us kathleeng! Congrats Cindy and family!! May is a great time for a wedding!!
Squid, your daughter will definitely want to get the Guam phone service. If she has an iphone and you have an iphone download Viber, it's free phone calls and texting. Its awesome!! I'm sure she will enjoy the island!!
My sailor just went underway......not sure how long he will be gone. I am lucky and I do hear from him via email because he is IT and is on the computer all the time.
Take care!
My daughter is haeding to Guam next month. Hopefully we can figure something out to communicate with each other! She is my one and only!
Well in my neck of the woods we are getting ready for a wedding in May! My son will be home for around a month (hopefully) and he and his girlfriend will be getting married......in my yard....... Needless to say I have been super busy getting ready. It is lots of fun planning with my future daughter in law and getting to know her better. Very busy in NW Missouri!
Happy Valentine's Day to all! It seems like the weather in NW MO. is finally going to break and our snow will begin to melt, and I am ready!!! I know it will be cold again we still have a lot of winter ahead of us, but it will be nice to get rid of some snow!
Of course Facebook! Silly me didn't mention that! Thanks Cindy! We private message all the time! You have to keep the time difference in mind all the time. If you are looking for a quick answer to a question it may take 10 hours! Lol
40 ITB the best way I can get my son to communicate is facebook, we message there and also "Skype" there also. He always checks it daily, and it is free.
