LTD Iowa with that size of tree what kind of box are you using? One of the if it fits it ships? Or you using one of your own?

My Christmas box is ready to go, but decided today to wrap everything in red & green tissue paper so it will be like Christmas In A Box once he gets it!  Found a little 6 inch, pre-decorated tree at Michael's, so of course he's getting that too.  He may roll his eyes at it, but I hope he appreciates that mom is trying to provide a little Christmas for him.  :)  Confirmed last night that my son's ship IS in the Philippines for humanitarian aid.  The devastation there is staggering.......I'm sure it will be a very humbling experience for him.    Hope all is well with the rest of you.

Rhonda I had a long week last week with the death of my son in laws brother and close extended family member but I called Red Cross to make sure we communicated correctly with him the message and they confirmed what I already remembered that they only message for loss of brother, sister, mom, dad or grandparents.  They do not message if it's extended family.  We were all a wreck last week but my son serving was highly supported by all of us the best we could.  We sent messages and he called all of us for long phone calls and it greatly helped.  I got to talk to him yesterday morning on Veterans day for an hour and half.  I could tell we both needed it we couldn't stop talking.  I'm waiting to see if he leaves also.  He's not on the GW, he's a Seabee but I remember they sent boots down when Japan needed assistance.  He said a storm hung over them last week for an entire week so I know he thought Mississippi was wet where is homeport is but I think he's decided Guam is much wetter.  He had told me about all the snakes on the island but he said he has a new concern there is some giant lizard he came into his shop and found.  He said it's big.

Kinda strange to hear of Typhoons when we have snow here.  Big difference in weather.  I just sent him photo of our snow.

Mom Mercer I hope you hear from your son.  I was catching up on reading all the posts since I've been out of town all weekend and read yours and then all the moms that have offered to ask around for you.  Did you hear that anyone knows him?  I hope so.

My son is a Seabee and he went and helped an officer do some kind of job on a sub last week and he said he got a coin from him for helping because they said it took others five months to do what he and some Seabees did in a week.  He was really excited about getting another coin.  He has received two since he's been there.  I think I'm going to order him a display case for them because he is getting quite a collection going.  He was more excited too that the officer said he was going to arrange for them to have a tour of the sub.  He's never been on one so he is considering it a great honor and adventure.

Have a great day ladies.  I find so much comfort on our page these days.  Thank you all for being here and keeping us posted. I'm trying to get Christmas box together soon.

CNN said on the news this morning GW on the way to Philippines. Prayers and good thoughts to all our sailors getting ready to help with the despair they will be encountering there

LMD Iowa- I just sent a package, and he said the choc chip cookies were fine. I made home made pralines and wrapped all them separate and then sealed in a bag and he LOVED them, we make them hot with some habanero pepper extract in them, that is something his Dad and him both love and we make them every year at the holidays, he got his early! His girlfriend made him some rice krispy treats- they traveled fine also.

Mom Mercer, private message me, also, I can ask my son if he knows him. We are still randomly hearing from him via Facebook or text messages, even though he is currently at sea.

Other Moms:  ok, I have an update.....my son is at sea for a while now.  I couldn't mail my last (previously mentioned!) package since the address will be changing for the new ship.  I got an email with an address where I can send a package for him, so hopefully he'll get this mail while they're at sea.  (I am assuming they still deliver mail/packages to the ship while it's deployed, yes?)   By the way, does anybody have any helpful hints on SOME kind of Christmas candy I can include in a goodie package for Christmas for him?  I know we can't send chocolate because it would arrive in a giant lump of melted goo.    I'm trying to come up with stuff that he can enjoy & share with his buddies......what about Twizzlers or Starburst jelly beans?  I'm assuming candy canes might work, too.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

Mom Mercer- same with me, I would be glad to ask my son if he knows him.

momMercer.....is he assigned to the Cable and what is his rate? You can private message me his name and I can ask my son. If he is assigned to a sub they go dark for long periods of time with no communication. I'm sure he is fine but I understand your concern.
