tysmom my Sailor used to work as a lifeguard at a local pool when he was a teenager. We get some pretty good thunderstorms and lightning storms where we live. Anyway one day when he was working a pretty good storm hit rather suddenly they had everyone out of the pool and under awnings. Where my son was standing a pole was hit by a bolt of lightning! Thank goodness everyone were okay. I used to worry like crazy all the time when we had storms and he was at work.

Pam- Sounds like a good time with your Sailor :-) My hubby and I are all about quiet too. Can't wait for our turn...some day! But for now we're enjoying our Marine who just arrived this afternoon from Texas. He graduated his final stage of training (may I just add as Honor Man for second time in his class!) from Texas and home for the first time since October 2013.

tysmom you're funny didn't you have to fly on a plane to get to Hawaii? Lol! And the expressway made you nervous silly girl :-)

I experienced thunderstorms when I was there. The thunder echoed off the mountains! I saw streaks of lightening and my son was out golfing in it. Ahhhhh!!! I think those sticks they use to hit those little balls around the field are good lightening rods!!!

I did not make it to the farmer's market.  We were so busy doing stuff that the time just slipped away. We shopped at the commissary twice while there.  Besides picking up some essential supplies (toilet paper!) at Walgreens. I was amazed at the amount of tunnels going through the mountains!  And the numerous rainbows.  They were amazing!

Awesome. I like that area. What I do not like is the height of the expressway going back to Pearl Harbor. I just can't look over the edge.

I shopped at Safeway most the time with my card for discounts. Did you go to the Farmers Markets?

Welcome to the new members.  We just returned from a 12 day trip to Hawaii to visit our Sailor.  We rented a small house in Kailua - right outside of Kaneohe (the marine base).  Although the house was wonderful and pretty close to the beach, I did not realize that air conditioning is not always used by the locals!  And it was hot!  That aside, we really enjoyed the small town atmosphere and we were so happy we didn't stay in Waikiki.  Traffic was crazy but if you like the "busy" areas when you go on vacation then Waikiki is the place for you.  I like it more quiet.  We managed to pack a lot in to that 12 days and even got to see a concert and fireworks at Pearl Harbor for the 4th of July.

bmello - that story made me cry - I wish we could all leave our problems out on the back porch - for later on.

I continue just trying to keep positive thoughts and enjoy a moment which is now.  Sometimes that is a hard thing to do.  I keep trying. A Loving Family helps. Thank you and have a great day- everyone!

bmello - R & R - I think everyone needs a little and I hope you and you son get the rest you need to recuperate - so you can continue to fight the good fight called "life".  My son has recently informed me about the "stress" he is under and I told him that what I do is go outside, pull a leaf off a beautiful tree or bush and contemplate that leaf for all the time needed.  That is what helps me, the beauty of nature.  Good Luck to you and yours - You are in my prayers and a leaf has been pulled and contemplated in your honor.

I am glad you were persistent and found a place. When are you leaving?
