Thank you Storymom!  My husband and I visited Pearl Harbor years ago when we vacationed on Oahu.  That's great that your son and friends were able to go tour Pearl Harbor.  Lots of history there. My son will be on a submarine.

Hi Everyone,

My son is currently in Groton, CT.  He graduated from Torpedoman's Mate "A" School last week, and will do "C" School.  He will get to come home for a week and then will fly to Oahu, and be stationed in Pearl Harbor March 2nd.

My former sailor left Hawaii, his last port, in 2012. He finished his commitment and he and his wife (fiancee then) decided that military life was not for him. He is a happy civilian, married with a great job. I would like to give all those with sailor coming home to have some patience during the transition period.  My sailor was polite with us (his parents) but I can tell he was impatient when things were not done in the manner that he requested (dictated). His disappointment with his younger brother for leaving the Army prematurely was one of the reason he was confrontational, rude and borderline obnoxious with his brother. It was difficult to have them under the same roof. My son was used to telling 10 -15 people what to do, how to do and when to do it. He didn't back down from anyone up or down the chain of command.  It takes time for these young men/women to change from military behavior to civilian behavior. Give them a lot of space. Find them outlet to take off the steam.

Pearl Harbor MA, so happy for you, you put in your time: waiting, praying, crying, phone calls, texting, long Hello's & Good-bye's. Can't wait till I am in your shoes, but I have several years to go, so I take it day by day, & pray that the Good Lord keeps my sailor son safe in all that he does, & where-ever he goes.
