OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Feb =467th & 1908th/other groups
We are doing these units. They are out of Wisconsin (of which I am a native) and were at Ft. Hood when the terrorist attack occured on early November. They lost several members of each unit. Dori suggested that we do something special on the pillowcases for this unit and we chose angels because medical people are "angels of mercy". Maryellen is our mom coordinator for these units. She is doing an outstanding job already getting us the necessary information.
467th - this unit will a combo of then bands of angels and the appliques on the pillowcases. There are 46 in this unit, 21 female and 25 males.
1908th - this unit will have also have a combo of both types of angel pillowcases. There are 46 in this unit, 12 female, 34 male.
Fallen heroes - we are going to give the family of each fallen soldier a pillowcase to remember their loved one. There are 5. Lyn has graciously said that she will embroider something special. The Wounded will get the same type as the unit. FRG contacts. There are 2 and Maryellen will make those.
I am posting some other photos that were sent this month too.

my friend Barbara did some calling today. There is a quilting store not far from me that has a sw print with cherubs and saguros. So I'll go look at it tomorrow.
also got another lead for a private quilting store and I will call tomorrow. -

I'll have to measure it. I'm thinking finished about 4". thanks, I guess it's okay. will have to do though. I have quite a bit of that angel fabric, so really wanted to use that one for the variety.
I am anxious to see the sw print. -

Your pillowcase looks nice, Sue. I see you used some of your white stars on white ... nice transition. A Navy Mom Love heart would be nice. We need to remind this group that we are Navy Moms. :-)

I went to another quilting store today. They had that "male" angel fabric and I just don't like it. They also had some cherub, but that isn't the look that we're going for.
there was one more piece that my husband nixed. It was okay. they had lots and I'll keep it in mind. It was a slate blue background with vertical "rows" of decoration, about 6 across I guess.
One circle had an angel that kind of looked like Lady Liberty holding a flag., Sounds neat, but alittle odd looking. I did get a couple of leads on fabric that I will check out this week. -

SCORE! I got angel fabric at Walmart today. it is earthtones with some blue. I just bought 2 yards, but they have more.
also talked to a woman at church today who is a quilter and she''ll check her stash. and I think she will help sew. -

Hello, I'm back!! I haven't been on N4Ms since before Christmas except to post one or two things quickly. I haven't put my Christmas stuff away yet, still have two trees up, yikes. Do you still need angel fabric? I will check all the stores tomorrow (Monday) and see what I can find. We have some pretty nice quilting stores here so I'll include that one too. I'll be digging the sewing machine out as soon as I can, it takes a few days to put all my Christmas stuff away but it's time!! I'm excited to get sewing again!

Glad you are back! yep, we could use some more angel fabric. I will tell you that I found a piece that I saw online and in a quilting store and really don't like it.
it's black haired males and to me, it just looks odd. also, I don't think the naked cherubs are a good choice either. I saw those too on Saturday.
am I picky or what. haha. thanks for looking! -

Like the pictures. I do not sew but if you do not have enough material, can you cut out each angel from the material and just sew a few to each pillow case? It does seem like alot of work though, just a thought.

good suggestion and we are going to do that. so great thinking. one of my contacts in NE found some angel fabric at her Walmart. I wonder if it's the same that i got.

bought alittle more of the angel fabric at walmart yesterday. It is actually the song "Amazing Grace". I washed a bunch of fabric last night, so should be able to start my angel sewing pretty soon. I am anxious, I just have a few generic started that I want to get done to resupply my stash.
If I don't have 100 on hand, I think I am low. haha.
The 467th will have banded ones and the 1908th will have a combo of bands and appliques. Is this how we are doing it Maryellen, or mixing them up between the 2 groups? -

I can let you know after Saturday. I have a friend coming over for a sewing day! I love it and it's a first for me. We are going to work on the appliqued ones. Actually, I can tell you that. We have 17 that will be appliqued from a piece of fabric that I bought. I have 51 other appliques that can be used if needed.
I will figure how many banded ones I can go by the end of the week. doesn't matter if they are made, I just need to cut them. Duh!
Maryellen, when do you plan to be back from VA? -
