"Darkhorse" is the name given to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, the most highly decorated regiment in the Marines.  These young men are currently serving in Afghanistan.  There are five companies in this battalion and this represents a large number of Marines who would appreciate any love we can send their way.

Weapons Company received several care packages in December and then HAE moved on to Lima Company.  When all have finished up mailing their boxes, Lima Company will be put to "bed."  The next, and probably last company, we will do is Kilo Company.  There are about 170 Marines in this group, all males.  The mailing date for Kilo Company is February 7.   This should give us enough time to get sufficient pillowcases ready for mailing.  As with every project, we need to have sufficient pillowcases for each Marine in the company to receive one.

For OPSEC reasons, I would appreciate your letting me know via PM (make me a friend on N4M if I am not already one) the number of pillowcases you will send in your box.

Sue sent me this "Semper Fi" poster.  I watched the video about the Marines in Bethesda.  The attitude of the Marines who have suffered terrible injuries is absolutely amazing.  Here is a link with a video of Kilo Company.

Birdie, we are still about 35 short.  I am hoping to make some after my g'daughter leaves on Tuesday and they have not been added in.
Would 10 more be a help. I can come up with 10 more by the Feb ship date.

Lyn, Assuming I get my 15 done, and I should be able to do it, we have enough now.  Thanks so much for volunteering more.  For a while, it is scary sometimes that we won't get the unit covered.  By now, I should realize that our Navy moms do come through!

Shirley,  Many thanks for your 12.

Here's what I have for commitments

Ally 30

Birdie 30

Cheryl 25

Dori 15

Lyn 20

Natalie 22

Shirley 12

Tamara 15

If anyone runs into trouble, e.g., a machine that does not cooperate, please send me a PM.  Then I will be sure not to miss it.  I will send out the address this weekend.  Remember mailing date is February 7.  Please be sure to include a note telling the POC that more pillowcases will be arriving and there should be sufficient pillowcases for everyone to receive one.

Take care,

Dori

do I need to mail some?  just let me know.

okay ladies, I am throwing this out there.  And Dori, please let us know if it can be done before they leave.

Kilo company is covered without me helping.  So I am going to mail all to the India company-that is 150 or so.

That would leave 1 more company that have not received anything from us.  The weapons received just care packages.  This unit is about 350.  If there is time,  do you want to try and tackle them once Kilo is done?

Thoughts?

Count me in. If you think we can get it done before they leave.

If we have a quick turnaround, we should  be able to make it.  I would target February 21 for the mailing date.

My g'daughter leaves Tuesday so I should be able to do 30.

Who else is in?  Give me feedback on the proposed mailing date.

it works for me.  But let's see what others say.
I think you should put this up for discussion on the main list. Not everyone might be checking in here.
Count me in on Weapons Company. I know my friend Diane will also be able to add to that.
I don't think this is Weapons Company that Sue is talking about,  but another one. I'm probably wrong but I'm still in for the project.

You are right, Lyn.  This is H & S Company ... wonder what that stands for.

Birdie, I did hear from Diane this evening.  She has a bunch to add to H&S.
