The blocks should be 6" and made out of a 100% cotton fabric. Since we are doing various States, I'm planning on using a red, white and Blue color scheme for the connecting or bridging fabri

I would like to get all the blocks by the end of March. PM me and I'll send you my address

I am in the process of canceling my trip to Japan so I will definitely get Maine done.  I can also do Kansas (lived there) and Nebraska (lived there, too).

I do have a question, Lyn.  You said you want six-inch squares.  Do you want a 1/4 seam allowance beyond the six inches, making the finished square 6-1/2 x 6-1/2?

Idea:  What if each of us wrote Tim a note about the block we created.  For example, Kansas is the Sunflower State so I may try to make it out of sunflower material ... if I can find scraps that I should have from an outfit I once made.  Also, it has significance since I lived there when my husband earned his master's degree.  Nebraska I have to think more about because of a long rivalry between my older son and my husband.  My husband earned his bachelor's at Oklahoma and we all cheered for Oklahoma.  Then we moved to Nebraska and my son went to UN.  He switched loyalties to UN.  They always fight about which is the "true" Big Red.  Now what is interesting is that both my husband and I earned Ph.D.s at Nebraska but our son did not earn a degree at all.  He was early admission to Ohio State for vet school and never earned a bachelor's at all, only his vet degree.

1. Nope, I want the blocks to be 6". When I sew them to the picture frame border, they will measure 5.5" which is exactly what I want. I know it does not make a lot of sense to most quilters but hang in there with me.

2. I think its a great idea to put notes in with the quilt.

You are now down for Maine, Kansas and Nebraska.

I'm sorry that I've confused so many of you. All I can say is this is what happens when a Fiber Artist meets the Quilt world. You guys are great and this is going to be a wonderful project.
Would you like a bit extra of the fabric I am using for my blocks to use elsewhere?
That would be great. I'm sure I'll find somewhere it use it.

Marlo, glad to hear from you and thanks for the squares!  Ally, the same to you.

Dori, so happy and sad about your trip.  Sad for the cancellation, but happy that you aren't going right now.  thought about you as I watched the news tonight, hoping you weren't going.

Glad you will be able to do those squares.  I have some sunflower fabric if you need some.

Put Kathy M down for a quilted one.  She made the pc and it will probably be Marine related as her grandson is also a marine.

I'll take New Jersey also since my husband is from there.  The garden state, I know what to do for that one.  So I have 4, plus  Kathy's, so 5 coming from me.  good thing I bought 1/2 yard of fabric!

How are you doing your squares, Sue?  You mention purchasing 1/2 yard of fabric so that would sound like either painting or applique.

If you don't get New Mexico, I could also do that one ... perhaps with a Zia symbol.  We lived there too.  Did I tell you I did not marry into the Navy because I didn't want to move?  I just did realize I was marrying a gypsy.  I got two degrees at New Mexico State University.

I'll put you down for New Mexico, thanks.

Hey Sue, I may not post much but I am always around.  Life has a way of interupting the good stuff.

I am using fabric markers like I am doing on the pcs.  will heat set them Lyn.  although, the WI one will probably have a piece of fabric appliqued on it.  a black and white cow, what else?  haha

boy, I can sure relate to that Marlo!

Lyn, can you copy the photo of Tim and put it in the description?

I will try. I'm so not good with the picture thing. I'll ask my husband when he gets home. Do you want me to use the one with the President or the one with his pillowcase?
