While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hang in there, I felt the same way last week. He will be fine and settle in quickly. Where will your HM be working? My son is HM Psych Tech just graduated C school mid December in San Antonio. He is at an outpt pediatric mental health clinic. He was hoping to be doing clinical work but appears to be doing clerical work until he can repost for another position. He is a little disappointed about that but will be there for a few years. As I mentioned above, we have only texted so far. First text arrived Saturday night, Sunday am for him. I am hoping his internet will get connected soon so we can Skype.

WOW! What an adventure he has ahead of him! This island can be fun and exciting IF the sailors can get around and explore. Be sure he takes advantage of the USO there on base. I'm not pushing the USO - but they were so helpful with J when he first got there. They have free WiFi and phones that the sailors can use to call home whenever they want to for FREE. (There is a time limit and it's only once a day - but you can hear his voice!)
I started a group - if you'd like to join! It's Okinawa Moms...and I thought it might make our communication easier! Please join if you want to!! And PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS you need to!

I JUST STARTED A GROUP FOR OKINAWA MOMS! This discussion board is wonderful - but the group setting gives us a better way to share everything...photos, poems, prayers.,,etc!
PLEASE JOIN!! It's just Okinawa Moms.
I am hoping this can take off! I love being a part of the Japan Mom's group - but there are many things that are more specific to Okinawa that they don't know the answers too...or even sometimes understand.
My son is an RP - he is serving with the Marines (GREEN) and travels around to a few different chapels.

Thanks! He just arrived today around 5 our time (i'm just guessing). I don't know what he will be doing there. He didn't go to "C" school and he's blue side thats all I really know. I'm just hoping his experience there in Japan will be better than SA. His roommate was a reall pieace of work. So it wasn't a fun time for him. I'm hoping this new chapter in his life will be better. How exciting a Psych tech. I was hoping my salior would go on to a C school but he wanted to go out and see the world. Oh well maybe some day he can go back to C school and get more training. I'm hoping he has quite an adventure, that is one of the reasons I wanted him to join the Navy was to see the world and all it has to offer. I just didn't know it would hurt this bad when he left. lol! missing him is part of life. Thanks NM's for listening! I wish all the best for our sailors!

My sailor(PS2) and I have orders for Okinawa and we will be there by the end of this year. I would love some tips on moving, since this will be our first move. Not sure exactly which camp we will be living on, but I would love to know how the base housing is over there. From what Ive read, it is AF housing. Any tips would be appreciated :) Would love to have the Do's and Dont's from anyone who has ever been there.

Your sailor should get a sponsor who will help with the check in process. Be sure he requests a welcome aboard packet. Do you have your passport yet? Begun overseas screening?

We are in the process of getting Gov. passports and he is still at the school and going through screening. Do my daughter and I also have screenings? since he is coming from an A school(he was cross rated), I believe we have 30 days to do all of this :S

Yes, there is a screening for dependents. Basic criminal and debt check, and medical, with immunizations. Mostly they're looking for dependents who will be security risks, or who have specialized medical needs which cannot be handled by the military system overseas.
Looks like you can get the process started in your area, and you can call the Oki hospital with questions. Doesn't have to be done by the Navy.

Is your daughter school age? The DoDD schools are very good.
If he can get a set of hard copy orders to you, do it! You'll find all sorts of info you need (like the order numbers, useful when arranging the packout and talking to housing ASAP).
