Knit for the Navy

A group for those who knit or crochet that would like to blanket our sailors with a touch of home. Our goal is to blanket the entire Navy.

Ok, here are the basics. We are asking for handmade blankets/afghans that are twin bed size or smaller. You can knit, crochet, quilt, or make the hand tied (no sew) fleece blankets. (We are open to any other methods as well.) Any pattern or color, that is up to your creativity. Just be sure they are tasteful and appropriate.

After I receive the blanket/afghan, they will be collected and distributed to the ship of the month. Look for pictures of the finished blankets/afghans posted here. Any questions or suggestions can be sent to me or posted on our message board here. Thank you all for your help.

Due to the HUGE cost of shipping blankets, I am very sad to say that I can no longer accept blankets to mail to the ships. I hope that everyone will continue to enjoy the group and come together for friendship and support. Thank you so much everyone who make blankets for our sailors. I know that they appreciated them.

Terri, could you send me the information on donations for shipping. You mentioned a bank but I don't remember what it said. Any other information on donating to the group would be greatly appreciated.

I buy my yarn at JoAnn Fabrics. They have 40% off coupons like Micheals. They also have sales on yarn and/or they have bins with special sales on certain colors. I signed up for the coupons in my name and my mothers name so I get double the coupons. That covers the yarn for the entire afgan.

The bunks on the subs are about 36" by 72". I don't know if that is any help but the blanket I sent my son was 48" by 60" and he said that was OK because it was a fleece blanket and he could tuck in the sides when he made up his bunk.

It looks like I am no longer unemployed. I was looking forward to just working on the house. But, the word has apparently gotten out that I wasn't working for my former employer. I started getting calls late last week. I'm now back to working for myself. I'll be doing alterations for a wedding and a prom dress. Don't worry though I still crotchet to relax.
