Knit for the Navy

A group for those who knit or crochet that would like to blanket our sailors with a touch of home. Our goal is to blanket the entire Navy.

Ok, here are the basics. We are asking for handmade blankets/afghans that are twin bed size or smaller. You can knit, crochet, quilt, or make the hand tied (no sew) fleece blankets. (We are open to any other methods as well.) Any pattern or color, that is up to your creativity. Just be sure they are tasteful and appropriate.

After I receive the blanket/afghan, they will be collected and distributed to the ship of the month. Look for pictures of the finished blankets/afghans posted here. Any questions or suggestions can be sent to me or posted on our message board here. Thank you all for your help.

Due to the HUGE cost of shipping blankets, I am very sad to say that I can no longer accept blankets to mail to the ships. I hope that everyone will continue to enjoy the group and come together for friendship and support. Thank you so much everyone who make blankets for our sailors. I know that they appreciated them.

Hi all, I'm just finishing my packing. I'm going down to spend the 4th with my son in Norfolk. He's closing on his first home tomorrow, so we'll be helping him move. But don't worry, I'm taking my knitting with me. Hope everyone has a great 4th of July.

Anita, I haven't joined her reader's club, but I plan on it in the future. I enjoy her writing.

A while ago some one mentioned a book called The Good Yarn or The Shoppe on Blossom Street. I was looking for something to read so I checked out these two books. I'd like to say thanks for the suggestion and the knitting patterns in the front of the books are really nice.

Terri, Don't worry about Ordy. I've got it covered. I'm also working on a knitted afgan for my next blanket. I knit slower than I crotchet, so this one will take a bit longer to finish. I had no idea this "being retired" thing could be so busy.

Ordy, Are you looking for something Knitted, Crotcheted or Quilted?

Terri, I'm working on another afgan (knitted this time). I was wondering what ship or boat are we working on now and how are we doing?

We had some seriously bad weather last night. There were tornado warnings all over the place. So, I started knitting to keep occupied. I finished about 1/4th of an afgan last night. We're expecting more heavy weather tomorrow, so I might have another afgan for you very soon. BTW, did you find the check in the box?

JerseyMom...I'd like to see a pattern for a BB also and what is the size of it? Is it crocheted? Looking for something to do while watching TV in the evenings.
